\ Purpose and Goals of the Course:By the end of the semester the student should be able to complete the listed objectives with a minimum 60% competency level based of the grading procedure for the course.
\\
\\ 1. Understand the concept of Geologic Time and be able to reproduce the Geologic Time Scale.
\\ 2. Understand the formation of Sedimentary rocks and how depositional environment affects fossil formation.
\\ 3. Understand the use of fossils in determining age and succession of sedimentary rock units.
\\ 4. Demonstrate the ability to recognize and describe rock and fossil distribution for the major geologic time divisions.

\ Cell phones are not to out during class unless okayed by the instructor. Any use of a cell phone or other device during a test or quiz will result in immediate forfeiture of the quiz/exam and a zero grade.
\\ Quizzes will be given at the beginning of the class period, you must be on time for the quiz. If you are not present when the quiz is handed out, you will not be allowed to take the quiz and will receive a zero for that quiz.
\\ During exams, you are expected to be on time. Once the first test has been turned in, no tests will be handed out to anyone late for class.
Final grades will be based on a combination of 4 mid term tests, 1 final exam, a group project/presentation, and various homework and quizzes. The lowest exam score of the 4 semester exams and the lowest 2 quiz score will be dropped from your grade average.
Grade Breakdown: Midterm tests 65%
Homework/quizzes 5%
Group Project 5%
Final 25%
Homework: Homework is due at the beginning of class. Homework not turned in at that time will be considered late and will not be accepted. Assignments can be turned in early by email or through ACconnect.
Quizzes will also be given at the beginning of the class; if you are not there when the quiz starts you will not be allowed to take the quiz. Therefore it is in your best interest to ensure that you are in class on time.
The overall course grade will be according to the following percentages:
A - 90 - 100 %
B - 80 - 89.99 %
C - 70 - 79.99 %
D - 60 - 69.99 %
F - Below 60 %
There will be no extra credit assignments. If you have a question about a grade, you have two weeks from the date that the grade is posted to ask for a review. After that two weeks the grade will be permanent.
\ Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. There will be no makeup’s for homework, missed quizzes or tests unless prior arrangements have been made.

\ Reading the Text: It is vital that you read the text BEFORE the lecture on that chapter. This will greatly improve your understanding of the topic and therefore your grade. As there is a large amount of material to cover in this class, the more times you see the material the more you will retain.
