DFTG-1309-002 Basic Computer-Aided Drafting

Prerequisites

Course Description

An introduction to basic computer-aided drafting. Emphasis is placed on drawing setup; creating and modifying geometry; storing and retrieving predefined shapes; placing, rotating and scaling objects; adding text and dimensions; using layers; coordinating systems; as well as input and output devices.

Discovering AutoCAD 2014 by Mark Dix and Paul Riley 

 

Supplies

Two assignment folders.

Student Performance

Emphasis on the AutoCAD interface, managing files, creating and modifying geometry in 2D models, inputting locations by coordinate system, formatting scaled plots, managing properties by layer, using object snap, creating and modifying text, creating dimensions.

\ It is the responsibility of the student to initiate drop or withdrawal procedures.  Students who stop attending class but do not officially drop or withdraw from this course will receive a letter grade at the end of the semester.

Grading Criteria

A - 89.5 and above

B - 79.5 to 89.4

C - 69.5 to 79.4

D - 59.5 to 69.4

F - 59.4 and below

The final grade will be computed as follows: 

    Weekly Written Assignments                 20%
    Weekly Drawing Assignments               20%
    Three Exams                                         20%
    Three Projects                                       30%
    Final Exam                                            10% 
                                                                 100%

Assignments and projects that are late will be lowered 10 points.  After one week from the due date, a grade of 0 is assigned.

If a student misses an online test, he or she may take a written makeup exam within one week of the original test date.  After one week a grade of zero is assigned.

 

Attendance

Students are expected to attend all regularly scheduled class meetings.  Attendance is monitored.  If a class is  missed, it is the student's responsibility to determine what may have been missed and take appropriate action.
