Log in using the AC Connect Portal

In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to behave in the classroom in a manner that is supportive of the learning environment. Behaviors that are not supportive include but are not limited to: tardiness/leaving early, electronic device noises, talking during lecture, abusive, offensive, or disrespectful language and/or demeanor toward AC faculty, staff, students and/or property.

Talking during lecture, even when it applies to the subject, keeps other students from hearing the lecture. If another student asks you a question, please interrupt the instructor and let them explain. Chances are others have the same question.

In order to receive credit for a course, all material listed on the syllabus (which is mandated by the state) must be covered. The instructor sets the pace to ensure that these requirements are met.

Students who fail to comply with the standards outlined in the syllabus and/or "Student Rights & Responsibilities" will be subject to disciplinary action which may include but is not limited to; removal from the classroom, consultation with department chair and/or other AC authority, withdrawal from the course and/or the college.

Cheating of any sort will not be tolerated and will result in a grade of zero on the test, quiz or homework in question with no chance of dropping that grade.

Policy on Cheating and Plagiariam:  Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated in any math course at Amarillo College.  On the first day of class, you will be required to sign and date a Course Contract.  Included in the contract is the following statement:  "I fully understand that if I cheat, or attempt to cheat, on any test I will receive an automatic "F" in the course.  This grade will go on my permanent transcript and cannot be removed.  Cheating includes the use of cell phone calculators, the illegal use of books, notes, cell phones, and copying.  Cheating also includes helping, or attempting to help, other students to cheat on a test."  You will not be allowed to take your tests until this contract is signed and returned to your instructor.  Please Note:  NO CELL PHONES in the Testing Room.  If we see your cell phone out AT ANY TIME, FOR ANY REASON, while in the testing room, you will receive an "F" for the course!

Tentatively, five (5) tests and a comprehensive final will be given during the semester.

Test Corrections:  Students scoring below a 70 on any chapter test will be required to turn in corrections to that test for no credit.  Students may go to the Outreach Center to work on the corrections; students may also go to the instructor's office for help.

Make-up tests will not be given. If a test is missed, the grade will be replaced with the score you make on the final exam. (If you do not miss any chapter tests during the semester, I will replace your lowest chapter test grade with the grade you make on the final exam, provided the grade on the final is higher than the lowest chapter test grade.).

Final Exam: A comprehensive final exam will be given at the end of the semester. Under no circumstances will the final be given late. The final will be given Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 12:00-2:00pm in our regular classroom.

Written homework will be assigned after each section covered in class and graded by the instructor. Late homework will not be accepted.

Written Homework:

  1. Homework must be done in pencil. Anything that is wrong or needs to be corrected must be clearly erased. Do not write, doodle, or perform mathematical calculations in the margins. Homework must be neat and legible.
  2. Do not tear your paper out of a spiral and leave jagged edges. Any assignment with jagged edges will not be accepted and will be recorded with a grade of zero.
  3. Homework must be presented in an orderly manner by folding the paper in half and only working down the two columns created from the fold. All final answers must be boxed or circled t receive credit. Any problem with the answer not circled or boxed in will not be graded.
  4. You must write your full name and the homework section number on the top of each page of paper used. You must submit (turn in) your homework with all the pages in order and folded in half. A full heading is required on the outside of your homework and must include your full name, homework section, class section, and the instructor’s name. Any homework that does not follow these heading requirements will not be graded.

I do not give extra credit.

Attendance

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of class. Students arriving more than 10 minutes late or leaving class early, prior to the instructor’s dismissal, will be marked absent. Students will begin the semester with an attendance average of 100. Students will be allowed to miss one class period without penalty, but starting with the second absence, five points will be deducted for each absence thereon. It is the students responsibility to sign the attendance sheet daily.

Withdraw deadline:  April 23, 2015

If you stop attending class and your average drops below a 60 and you do not officially drop the course by this date, you will receive an F for the course.
