Expected Student Behavior

\ 1.     PARTICIPATION

\

\ Students are required to participate in all exercises, improvisations, discussions, and critiques.  Feedback is important in theatre work, and it is essential that everyone remain involved, whether as participants or audience.

\

\

\

\ 2.     EXERCISES

\

\ Students will rehearse a series of movement exercises and present them to the

\

\ class (handouts and explanations to follow).  These will vary in length and require

\

\ a number of hours preparation outside of class.

\

\

\

\ 3.     REHEARSALS (IN AND OUT OF CLASS)

\

\ Students assigned together to perform scenes must arrange rehearsal times outside of class.  Each partner is expected to be at all rehearsals and contribute equally to the work on the scenes.  Students will also occasionally meet in class for rehearsals supervised by the instructor.  Students should make every effort to be present for all rehearsals (in and out of class).

\

\

\

\ 4.     PERFORMANCES

\

\ Students will perform several scenes in class to be chosen or assigned as the semester progresses.  Both the instructor and fellow students will critique these scenes.  All performances must be performed on due dates.  There will be no make-up performances.

\

\ If a student feels that he/she has a valid reason for a late performance, discussion with the instructor is encouraged.

\

\

\

\ 5.     PEER CRITIQUES

\

\ Students will be required to critique each scene performed in class using criteria discussed in the class.

\

\

\

\ 6.     WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS

\

\ All written assignments must be submitted through ACOnline between the dates and times listed in calendar below.

\

\ No assignments will be accepted after the submission close date/time.

\

\

Grading Criteria

Participation            = 30%

Critiques Avg.          = 20%

Performances Avg.  = 30%

Final Project             = 20%

Attendance

\ Because this is a performance-based course, regular attendance is highly recommended.  The fourth absence will result in a letter grade drop on the final grade.  Another letter grade drop will be taken after the fifth absence and another after the sixth.  Seven or more absences will result in a failing grade for the semester.  Three tardies count as one absence.

\

\ If a student has an emergency and must miss a performance day, the instructor must be notified in advance.

\

\ Students are also required to attend rehearsals that they have scheduled with their scene partners outside of class.  If a scene partner misses a scheduled rehearsal or does not use the rehearsal time properly, the other partner should contact the instructor immediately.
