Prerequisites

Course Description

Development of information security policies, standards and guidelines for an organization. Includes Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), antivirus, Virtual Private Network (VPN), wireless communications, remote access and other critical administrative and operational security policies. Identification of exposures and vulnerabilities and appropriate countermeasures are addressed. Emphasizes wireless security goals of availability, integrity, accuracy and confidentiality in the design, planning, implementing, operating and troubleshooting of wireless LAN along with appropriate planning and administrative controls.

 End-of-Course Outcomes: Develop information security policies, standards, and guidelines; configure DMZ, antivirus, VPN, wireless communications, and remote access; design, install, configure, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot wireless solutions; identify Best Practices and appropriate defenses including firewalls, encryption, physical security, intrusion detection, and biometrics; and demonstrate proper implementation and evaluation of wireless security using MAC filtering, WEP, LEAP, EAP, and 802.1x technologies.

Expected Student Behavior

\ It is the policy of the Career and Technical Education Division and the Electronics Program that pagers and cell phones must be turned off or in silent mode in the classroom setting and pagers and cell phones must be turned off while in labs.

\ It is the policy of the Career and Technical Education Division and the Electronics Program that food and drink may be allowed in the classroom setting, at the discretion of the instructor, but food and drink are not allowed in labs.

    A     Superior, >89.5% average on graded work.

    B     Good, >79.5% and <89.49% average on graded work.
    C     Adequate, Between 69.5% and 79.49% average on all work.
    D     Minimum, Between 60% and 69.49% average on all work.
    F      Failing, Below 60% average on all work.

The opportunity to make-up an exam and/or lab will be determined by the circumstances of each individual, permitted at the discretion of the instructor.

The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor.

Students who miss gradable coursework due to an absence will be given the opportunity to make up the missed work, with the exception of the final exam. The final exam may be taken early, if prior arrangements have been made. It is the responsibility of the student to contact the instructor as soon as possible after return to class to arrange to make up missed coursework.

INSTRUCTOR'S STATEMENT: As your instructor, I am always willing to discuss your grades with you and explain how your grade was determined. If a grading error has been made on my part, I am always willing to correct the error.

Attendance

Attendance in class is regarded as requirement, and obligation for learning. Please remember the deadline for dropping a class at AC is published in the official Amarillo College Schedule of Classes.  If you stop attending class and do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an “F” for the course.

Students will be warned and after two (2) absences and counseled by the instructor after three (3) absences.

Being tardy three (3) times will be considered one (1) absence.

Four (4) unexcused absences in any one semester may be cause for students to receive a failing grade for the course. Six (6) total absences (excused/or non-excused will automatically result in the student dropping one (1) letter grade for the course unless otherwise indicated by the instructor.

It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed due to absences and to gain missed lecture notes through outside reading and/or note from classmates.

Make up examinations (and other assignments) will be permitted at the discretion of the instructor. The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor.

If you are going to be late or absent, please notify the instructor as soon as possible.

**Out of class Lab work may be required.**

Note: As this is a Hybrid 8-week course Students must read the chapter and take exams at home by midnight on the day before the next class meeting. All hands on labs will be performed in class. Late work will be graded at negative 5 points per day after due date. Exams cannot be made up unless previously approved by instructor.
