Attendance

  1. Because this is a performance course, regular attendance is essential. An attendance grade will be given. In addition, the fact that our course meets once a week for 3 hours and 45 minutes, being in attendance is especially critical.  (Missing one night class is akin to missing two daytime courses.)  To reward your participation and attendance, I will be taking role twice each class meeting a) at the beginning of class, b) after the break.  Student attending all 16 weeks, both the first half of class and the second, will receive two 100s for their attendance grades (6.25 points for each half of class attended).

  2. I will monitor tardies (coming into class late, late being defined as 5 or more minutes).  Students who are tardy will receive half credit for their time in class (3.125 points for each half of class attended).  It is possible to be on time at 7 p.m. and receive a tardy for the attendance after the break.  Mind your time and be on time!

  3. Students who maintain perfect attendance (no absences or tardies) will be exempt from the final exam.  (Plus, they will have earned two 100s!)

  4. I will monitor your participation in class.  While you may not be comfortable speaking to a large group, this is a skill you are learning in this class.  If you are concerned about this, I encourage you to read the book Quiet by Susan Cain.
