Course Description

Collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data, and probability. Analysis includes descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Use of appropriate technology is recommended.

    Expected Student Behavior

    Students are expected to behave in the classroom in a manner that is supportive of the learning environment.  Behaviors that are not supportive include but are not limited to:  tardiness/leaving early, electronic device noises, talking during lecture, texting or participating in social media during lecture, and abusive, offensive, or disrespectful language or demeanor towards AC faculty, staff, students, or property.

    Students who fail to comply with the standards outlined in the syllabus and "Student Rights & Responsibilities" will be subject to disciplinary action, which may include but is not limited to: removal from the classroom, consultation with the department chair or other AC authority, or withdrawl from the course or college.

    Scholastic dishonesty shall constitute a violation of the rules and regulations described in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook under Student Conduct and Responsibilities.  Consequences for cheating may include  receiving a zero for an assignment, permanent removal from the class, or failing the course.

    Grading Criteria

    Your semester grade (90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, below 60 F) will be calculated using the following weights:

    15% Online HW Average (drop 2 lowest grades)
    15% Written Lab Assignments (drop lowest 1 grade)
    50% Exams
    20% Final Exam

    A minimum of 3 major exams will be given this summer session in addition to a comprehensive final exam.  If the final exam is higher than the lowest major exam, the final exam grade will replace it.  Otherwise, all major exam grades will be counted in the final average.  Major exams will be taken in class and kept on file in the instructor's office. 

    Attendance

    Daily attendance is necessary in both lecture and lab to be successful in this course.  You should be on time for class, prepared for class, and actively participate and be on task in class daily.  It is the responsibility of the student to sign the attendance sheet daily.  Nonattendance will be recorded as an absence, and no differentiation will be made as to excused or unexcused absences.  Note that the last day to drop is Wednesday, June 24, 2015.  Students who stop attending class and do not officially drop will receive a grade of F if their average falls below a 60.

    Additional Information

    Homework problems will be submitted online using MyMathLab.  All homework problems can be accessed online via MyMathLab, located at www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com.  Students will submit answers to all problems on this website.  MyMathLab automatically grades each problem and offers step by step help as you work.  Due dates for the online homework will be announced in class.  Beyond the due date, students can view but not change the online assignments. 

    GETTING STARTED WITH MyMathLab

    If you have used MyMathLab and already have an account:

    1.)  Go to www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com.
    2.)  Select "Sign In," and enter your existing Pearson account username and password.
    3.)  Select "Enroll in another course" above your course listings.
    4.)  Enter the courseID holmes63645.
    5.)  On the confirmation page, select "Go to your course."

    If you do not have a MyMathLab account already, you will need the following information:

     Course ID:  holmes63645

    Student Access Code:  If you chose to purchase a new textbook, the student access code can be found in the MyMathLab kit wrapped with your textbook.  If you chose not to purchase the textbook, you can buy the access code online with a credit card (approximately $88) during the registration process. 

    Email Address:  Use the address you check most often.

    1.)  Go to www.pearsonmylabandmastering.comand click the Register button in the Students Area.
    2.)  At the lower left corner under "For Students", click "Get Started".
    3.)  Click the link  "Learn how to register" to watch a video that demonstrates how to register, or simply read the instructions listed below the video link.
    4.)  Follow the step by step instructions to register and enroll. During the registration process, you will design a username and password.  I will have access to your username but not your password, so be sure to write these down.

    To get started after logging in:

    1.)  To work on assignments, click the “Homework” button, and choose the section you wish to complete.
    2.)  To access the e-textbook, click the “Chapter Contents” button, and choose the chapter and section you wish to view.
    3.)  To view a power point presentation, video, or animation from a particular section, click the “Multimedia Library” button, and choose the chapter and section you wish to view or print.

     LAB ASSIGNMENTS

    Labs will consist of completing written lab assignments and occasionally computer assignments using Excel covering the concepts we have discussed in lecture. Each lab assignment will be posted in Blackboard for the student to print and bring to class.  In most cases, students will be allowed to work in groups. Attendance in lab is mandatory. All lab assignments will be submitted during lab and graded by the instructor. Assignment deadlines will be announced as material is covered. I do not accept late lab assignments.

     

    LATE WORK / EXTRA CREDIT

    Late work is NOT accepted and extra credit is NOT given under any circumstance.  Due dates will be announced in class so be sure you are in class to keep up with your work.

    BLACKBOARD

     Students will be required to log in to Blackboard regularly to check the course announcements, e-mail, grades, and print class handouts.  To access our course area in Blackboard:

    1. Go to https://acconnect.actx.edu and log in.  Your log in information is the same as your Web Advisor log in.  If you need help contact askAC at 371-5000 and they can lead you in the right direction.  You may also contact the CTL helpdesk at 371-5992.
    2. Once you are logged in, click on our course
    3. Then, you will see any links you will need on the left hand side of the screen.
