SPAN-1412-001 First-year Spanish II
Prerequisite: SPAN 1411 or appropriate score on language placement test
Continued development of basic Spanish language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing within a cultural framework. Students acquire the vocabulary and grammatical structures necessary to communicate and comprehend at the high beginner to low intermediate level.

Academic Dishonesty:
Students are responsible for adhering to a certain standard of behavior when it comes to honesty and plagiarism. A student who engages in scholastic dishonesty which includes, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism and collusion will receive and "F" for this course. Academic dishonesty is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Grading:
Your grade will be weighted according to the following criteria:
Assignments = 40%
Tests = 60%
The exercises that you will be graded on are timed and need to be completed by a certain date. They are a combination of oral, listening, quizzes, and at the end of each chapter, a comprehensive test. The tests are timed and may not be accessed again after the date has passed. (Tests may be taken as early as three (3) days before the due date.) I strongly urge students to keep up with the assignments. They may be completed at any time before the due date. You may work on them at your own pace. I realize that much work is expected during a very short period of time during Summer Semester. Therefore, I have given students a cushion at the end of the semester. We will finish all work on July 24, but the semester does not formally end until July 30. I will allow students to make up late assignments during the week of July 24-July 29. Please be advised, however, that ALL TESTS MUST BE TAKEN BY THE DUE DATE. THEY MAY NOT BE MADE UP LATE – ONLY ASSIGNMENTS MAY BE MADE UP LATE (until July 29).
The standard ten-point spread is used to determine the letter grade received
90 –100 = A
80 – 89 = B
70 –79 = C
60 – 69 = D
below 60 = F
There is no extra credit in this course.
It will prove very beneficial to work all sections of Práctica as well as the Inténtalo sections. There are many sections not marked as an assignment in the content for each chapter. These sections, although some are not assigned, will prove extremely helpful if worked by students. The more sections you can do, the better you will understand concepts as well as spoken Spanish.
There will be no make-ups for chapter tests.

As a general rule, you can expect a test every week. There will be seven chapter tests given in the course.
There is no comprehensive final exam in this course.
Prerequisites: Spanish 1411 is the pre-requisite to Spanish 1412 which should have been taken in the succeeding term. Primary emphasis on fundamental skills in listening comprehension and speaking. Minimal emphasis on reading and writing skills. Includes basic vocabulary, culture, and an introduction to basic grammatical structures in the most commonly used tenses.
