COURSE DESCRIPTION:
HUMA 1301 Introduction to Humanities I This stand-alone course is an interdisciplinary survey of cultures focusing on the philosophical and aesthetic factors in human values with an emphasis on the historical development of the individual and society and the need to create.
Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
1. Demonstrate awareness of the scope and variety of works in the arts and humanities.
2. Articulate how these works express the values of the individual and society within an historical and social context.
3. Articulate an informed personal response and critically analyze works in the arts and humanities.
4. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the influence of literature, philosophy, and the arts on cultural experiences.
5. Demonstrate an awareness of the creative process and why humans create

Academic Honesty: All matters of academic dishonesty including plagiarism (the act of copying and pasting information from one source and inserting into a paper without proper citation, rewriting information from another source and inserting into a paper without proper citation, copying and rewriting from another student’s work and using as your own), collusion, fabrication, cheating etc. will result in a failing grade for the assignment in question.

•Students who cheat, copy, or plagiarize any of the three required essays will receive a zero (0) for the assignment and the Final Grade for the course will be reduced by one letter grade (A to B, B to C, C to D, D to F)

Online Student Behavior: All students are expected to be polite and considerate when posting opinions and thoughts in the Discussion Forum. The Online class is not a location where students may post aggressive, insulting, or inappropriate use of language. Any student who violates the required Student Behavior (as stated and in the AC Student Handbook) will result in a failing grade for the course.

Grading Criteria: It is the student’s responsibility to complete all assigned tasks by the specified due date. Individual assignments are evaluated by the instructor. Incomplete assignments, analyses, participation attendance concerns will be reported to specific department chairs, division chairs, and Associate Vice President of Instruction.

•The grade you will receive will be determined by your completion of the Assignments, Analyses, Presentation, Quizzes and Essays.
•Completion of Blackboard Student Help and Tutorial found on the AC Connect public announcement (home page). For students unfamiliar with online courses.
•Chapter Assignments, Analyses, Presentation, Quizzes and Essays will be averaged for the Final Grade.
Chapters will be presented according to specific calendar dates. Chapters will be not follow in sequential order, refer to the Course Calendar for specific due dates. It is important to complete all Assignments, Discussion Forums, Critical Thinking Analyses and Essays by the due dates; late submissions will not be accepted beyond the due dates.
1. Discussion Forums – worth 50% (lowest grade will be dropped)
2. Quizzes (4), Critical Thinking Analyses (4) and Final Exam – worth 50%
A. Project – Short Research Essay and Discussion Forum
Students will research information regarding a work of art from the textbook.
Students will write a 500 – 750 word essay following the paragraph instructions detailed in the Project Folder.
Students will submit the essay and complete the Discussion Forum.
B. Analysis of Attendance to a Visual or Performing Event
Students will write a 500 – 750 word essay following the paragraph instructions detailed in the Attendance Analysis Essay Folder.
Students will upload the essay as an attachment to the drop box by the specified due date.
Students will not be allowed to submit their essay after the due date.
C. Final Exam: Critical Thinking Analysis Essay – Averaged with Assignments
Students will choose a selected topic for research based on Chapter 11, 12 or Chapter 13.
Students will research, analyze and critique topic using academic research and critical analysis methods.
Students will present research evaluation by writing a 750 – 1000 word essay following the paragraph instructions detailed in the Critical Analysis Essay Folder.
Students will upload the essay as an attachment by the specified due date.
Students will not be allowed to submit their essay after the due date.
ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR ONLINE:
It is the student’s responsibility to access the course online and complete all Assignments, Analyses, Discussion Forums, Quizzes, and Essays according to the course calendar. Students are expected to access the online course every day to complete all requirements according to the set due dates.
Final Date to Withdraw from the Course without a Failing Grade: 11/17/2015
Accessing AC Connect: It is the student’s responsibility to check all e-mails and messageswhich sent by the instructor. It is the student’s responsibility to check the Announcement section for information regarding any changes for course. Students will submit all assignments and analyses using AC Online unless noted on the assignment or by the instructor.
HUMA 1301 Course Calendar for Online Class: Assignments, Discussion Forums (DF), Critical Thinking (CT) and Essays may be turned in before the Due Dates. All Assignments, Discussion Forums, Critical Thinking and Essays are due before 11:00pm unless otherwise noted. Submissions will be submitted in MLA format, saved in doc, docx, rtf, pdf only. Submissions in wps, odt, or . pages will not be accepted.
