You must have access to a desktop or laptop computer (PC or Mac) with Internet access. Blackboard is not optimized for mobile devices and the app stinks.

Student Performance

Assessment based on the ability to:

  • Complete a semester-long project involving planning, executing, and evaluating a blog and supporting social media.
     
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the strategic use of new and social communication technologies for businesses, organizations, and individual advancement.
     
  • Apply key concepts relevant to social media to advance understanding of how social networks are manifested in an online environment.
     
  • Utilize technology to improve critical thinking and writing.
     
  • Complete Hootsuite University Certification


Apply basic strategic applications of social media tools, with a focus on 4 key intertwined areas:
 

  • Monitoring: Strategies for identifying, cultivating, monitoring, and analyzing information on the social/real-time web.
     
  •  Metrics: Strategies for setting goals and what to measure on social media.
     
  • Optimization: Strategic use of optimization strategies to maximize potential exposure to communicate content online.
     
  • Engagement: Strategies for targeting and engaging potential publics online.

Learn how to promote organizations, products, and services using social media tools such as blogs, Facebook, and Twitter.
 
Adhering to the rules of online etiquette, learn how to build a community and curate its contributed information so that the information reliably provides online support for products or services.
