Any student who, because of a disabling condition, may require some special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact disAbility Services (Student Service Center room 119, phone 371-5436) as soon as possible.
As a student you may experience a range of issues that can cause barriers to learning, such as strained relationships, increased anxiety, alcohol/drug problems, feeling down, difficulty concentrating and/or lack of motivation. These mental health concerns or stressful events may lead to diminished academic performance or reduce a student's ability to participate in daily activities. Amarillo College offers services to assist you with addressing these and other concerns you may be experiencing. If you or someone you know are suffering from any of the aforementioned conditions, you can learn more about the broad range of confidential mental health services available on campus by calling the AC Counseling Center at 806-371-5900. The AC Counseling Center website is https://www.actx.edu/counseling/ . \ \Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated in any math course at Amarillo College. On the first day of class, you will be required to sign and date a Course Contract. Included in the contract is the following statement: "I fully understand that if I cheat, or attempt to cheat, on any test, I will receive an automatic "F" in the course. This grade will go on my permanent transcript and cannot be removed. Cheating includes, but is not limited to: the use of a cell phone, notes, notecards, or books during an exam, copying work from another student, or leaving the classroom or Math Testing Center with a test or questions from a test. Cheating also includes helping, or attempting to help, other students cheat on a test". You will not be allowed to take your tests until this contract is signed and on file with your instructor. Please Note: NO CELL PHONES may be used during an exam in class or in the Math Testing Lab. If your phone is out at any time for any reason during while in the Testing Room, you will receive an automatic "F" for the course.

Your course average (A 100 - 90, B 89 - 80, C 79 - 70, D 69 - 60, F Below 60) will be calculated using the above scale.
Online Homework:
Your first homework assignment will be to send me an email. The details of this assignment are posted in the Assignments section on Blackboard. The due date for this assignment is Tuesday, September 1. Daily homework assignments will consist of online assignments. Online assignments will be submitted using MyMathLab and will be automatically graded on the website. Assignment deadlines will be 15 minutes before the following class meeting and will be indicated in MyMathLab with each homework set. I do not accept late homework.
Written Lab Assignments:
Labs will consist of completing Written Lab Assignments covering the concepts we have discussed in lecture. Usually these problems require a deeper understanding of the basic concepts. Students will be allowed to work in groups during lab time. Attendance in lab is mandatory. Written assignments will be submitted in class and graded by the instructor. Detailed instructions on format for written assignments will be given in class. Assignment deadlines will be due one week from when the material is covered. I do not accept late lab assignments.
Exams:
Four (4) major exams and a mandatory comprehensive final will be given during the semester. Make-up tests will not be given. If an exam is missed, the grade will be replaced with the score you make on the final exam. This policy applies to one exam only. If you miss more than one exam, a grade of zero will be averaged for the other missed exams. If you do not miss any exam during the semester, the grade on the mandatory final exam, if higher, will replace the lowest exam grade.
If you know ahead of time that you will be missing an exam, you may schedule to take the exam early. Only under extenuating, verifiable circumstances and at the discretion of the instructor will an exam be given early.
Daily attendance is required. If you are more than 10 minutes late or leave more than 10 minutes early, you will be considered absent. It is the responsibility of the student to sign the attendance sheet daily.
Students who miss class will not be permitted to turn in assignments due that day. You must stay for the duration of the lab. If you are absent or leave early, you will receive a zero for that lab assignment.
Note that the last day to drop is Thursday, November 17, 2015. Students who stop attending class and do not officially drop will receive a grade of F if their average including zeros for missed assignments falls below a 60.
Tentative Schedule: This schedule is subject to change by the instructor at any time.
Homework
Your first homework assignment will be to send me an email. The details of this assignment are posted in the Assignments section on Blackboard. The due date for this assignment is Tuesday, Sept 1.
Homework will be assigned from each topic once we have completed the topic. The homework will be completed on MyMathLab (MML). To register for the class, login to Blackboard and click on one of the MML links in the menu. If you have used a Pearson MyLab or Mastering product before, login with your username and password. Make sure to use the same username and password, if you have used MML with this textbook before. If you have never used a Pearson MyLab or Mastering product, create a new account. If you have an Access Code either bought standalone or packaged with a textbook, you can then enter the code. Otherwise, you can buy an Access Code using a credit card or PayPal account. If you need to wait until payday or a financial aid check, you can use the 14 day free access by clicking the link at the bottom of the payment page. The two lowest online homework grades will be dropped at the end of the semester.
You are strongly encouraged to go to the Outreach Center if you feel you need extra help beyond meeting with me outside of class, or if you just want a place where you can do your homework and get help if you need it. The Outreach Center is located in Durrett Room 104.
Lab
The primary focus during each lab session will be problem solving. There will be a set of lab problems for each lab posted on the AC Connect website under Assignments. You will spend the entire lab working the problems. You will finish any problems that you were not able to finish in the lab before the next class meeting, and turn them in at the beginning of class. You will receive a 0 for the lab if you leave early before you have finished all of the lab problems. The two lowest lab grades will be dropped.
Work must be done in pencil. Anything that is wrong or needs to be corrected must be cleanly erased. Do not write, doodle, or perform mathematical calculations in the margins. Your work must be neat and legible. I will be the judge as to what is neat and legible. All work must be presented in an orderly manner with the problem running in a single column down the left half of the page. You use the right half of the page for graphs and drawings. Any problem (excluding graphs) with work presented in anything except the first column will not receive credit. If your work extends over more than one sheet of paper, you must staple the sheets together.
Major Exams
Four exams will be given during the semester. Note that no makeup exams will be given. If a student misses an exam, the grade will be replaced with the final exam grade. If the student does not miss any exams during the semester, the final exam grade, if higher, will replace the lowest major exam grade. If you score below a 70 on any exam, you must complete test corrections. These corrections are due within a week of when the exams are returned. If you fail to complete these corrections, you will not be allowed to take the next exam.
Final Exam
A comprehensive final exam will be given from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015.
Extra Credit
Outside the dropped homework assignments and lab grades and the replacement of the lowest exam, extra credit is not offered.
Phone
Cell phones must be turned off or in silent mode and OUT OF SIGHT while in the classrooms and the computer labs.
