Student Performance

After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to do the following, as evaluated by the faculty of the department/program:

1 .Heavy equipment operation and safety.

2. Basic grounding and bonding on distribution lines.

3. Rigging Basics

4. Overhead Rescue

5. Identify electrical test equipment and safety devices, and understand how they operate.

6. Learn how to climb wood utility poles.

7. Understand what basic line tools are and how to inspect them.

Expected Student Behavior

All pagers and cell phones must be turned off or in silent mode in the classroom setting and pagers and cell phones must be turned off while in labs or exams.

Food and drink may be allowed in the classroom setting, at the discretion of the instructor, but food and drink are not allowed in labs.

A = 90 to 100; B = 80-89; C = 70-79; D = 60-69; F = Below 60

The opportunity to make-up an exam and/or lab will be determined by the circumstances of each individual, permitted at the discretion of the instructor.

The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor.

Attendance

Attendance in class is regarded as requirement, and obligation for learning. Please remember the deadline for dropping a class at AC is posted online at www.actx.edu. If you stop attending class and do not officially drop the course by the required deadline, you will receive an “F” for the course.

Students will be warned after one(1) unexcused absence and counseled by the instructor after two(2) absences.

Being tardy three (3) times will be considered one (1) absence.

Two(2) unexcused absences in any one semester may be cause for students to receive a failing grade for the course. Four(4) total absences(excused/or non-excused) will automatically result in the student dropping one(1) letter grade for the course.

It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed due to absences and to gain missed lecture notes through outside reading and/or note from classmates.

Make up examinations (and other assignments) will be permitted at the discretion of the instructor. The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor.

If you are going to be late or absent, please notify the instructor as soon as possible.

Any students who leave before or durring the lab will not recieve credit for that day.

ELPT 1321: INTODUCTION TO ELECTRICAL SAFETY AND TOOLS

Week # 1: Chapter 1 in textbook and intro to pole climbing and equipment.

Week # 2: Chapter 2 in textbook and pole climbing.

Week # 3: Chapter 3 in textbook and pole climbing.

Week #4: Chapter 13 in texbook and intro to grounding electrical lines.

Week # 5: Chapter 16 in textbook and Bucket truck safety

Week # 6: Rigging Basics

Week # 7: Pole top rescue

Week # 8: FINAL EXAM

*Course calendar may be altered due to increment weather, campus closings, special events,

and/or field trips.

*Field trips will be scheduled as available.
