Any student who, because of a disabling condition, may require some special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact disAbility Services (Student Service Center room 119, phone 371-5436) as soon as possible.
As a student you may experience a range of issues that can cause barriers to learning, such as strained relationships, increased anxiety, alcohol/drug problems, feeling down, difficulty concentrating and/or lack of motivation. These mental health concerns or stressful events may lead to diminished academic performance or reduce a student's ability to participate in daily activities. Amarillo College offers services to assist you with addressing these and other concerns you may be experiencing. If you or someone you know are suffering from any of the aforementioned conditions, you can learn more about the broad range of confidential mental health services available on campus by calling the AC Counseling Center at 806-371-5900. The AC Counseling Center website is https://www.actx.edu/counseling/ . Also, if you are in need of social services (affordable housing, utilities, transportation, food, clothing, childcare, medical/dental/vision, legal), please call the AC Advocacy & Resource Center at 806-371-5439. COURSE GRADING SCALE:
| Criteria | Grade |
| >89.5% | A |
| >79.5% | B |
| >69.5% | C |
| >59.5% | D |
| <59.5% | F |
COURSE EVALUATION SCALE:
| ASSIGNMENT | WEIGHT |
| Chapter Exercises | 5% |
| Chapter Assessments | 10% |
| Unit Performance Assessments | 10% |
| Production Tests (4) / Final Exam | 75% |
| Attendance | 0 absences and 0 tardies adds 3 points to course grade; 1 point will be deducted for each absence; 2 tardies = 1 absence |
Chapter Exercises are an opportunity to practice the skills covered in a specific chapter. Some exercises will be completed, but not printed. Do not skip any exercises—the steps taken in an exercise build toward the next exercise. So, even if not printed, the exercise contains important steps that you will want to perform. Chapter Exercises are required and will be checked for completion
For the 72 printed exercises:
69-72 completed exercises = A (100%)
65-68 completed exercises = B (89%)
61-64 completed exercises = C (79)
57-60 completed exercises = D (69)
53-56 completed exercises = F (59)
0-52 completed exercises will result in an automatic course grade of F (regardless of other grades).
Chapter Assessments and Unit Assessments allow you to more independently demonstrate the skills learned in a particular chapter or throughout a particular unit (set of chapters). Chapter Assessments and Unit assessments are required and will be graded for both completion and accuracy. Accuracy is a critical element of this course and even minor mistakes will result in deducted points. There are a total of 78 printed assessments, each worth a possible 100 points. Points will be deducted for inaccuracies (typographical errors, misspellings, skipping an instruction, not completing an instruction properly, etc.). Because a minimum number of assessments are required, 0-57 completed assessments will result in an automatic course grade of F (regardless of other grades).
Staple together printed material assigned for each set of chapter exercises, each set of chapter assessments, and each set of unit performance assessments. For clarity, you are required to include the following information on the top sheet of each printed exercise/assignment--in the top right corner, write your first and last name; on the next line, write the specific exercise number (E), assessment number (A), or unit assessment number (UA) that printed material represents (e.g., E2.1C or A3.1 or UA1.8).
Exercises and Assessments are due by 7:00 p.m. on Monday evenings. There are NO exceptions to this—no late assignments will be accepted for ANY reason. Look ahead at your Course Schedule; work ahead where possible to ensure assignments are turned in on time.
There are five production tests (including the comprehensive final exam). There are NO makeup production tests for ANY reason. Production tests are timed for one hour. No extra time will be allowed.
There are no incompletes in this class. There is no “extra credit” to be earned. There are no make-up production tests for any reason.
If you have NO absences or tardies during the semester, three points will be added to the semester grade.
Employees in the business world are expected to be at work promptly each day; therefore, students in office administration and business classes are expected to be in class promptly each day.
This class meets one night per week. You should expect that we will utilize the entire class period (7pm – 9:45pm) each week. There are no excused absences. After one absence (for any reason) two points will be deducted from the semester average for each absence above one. Three tardies equal one absence. If you are more than five minutes late to a class, it will be counted as an absence. If you have perfect attendance and no tardies, three points will be added to your semester average.
