A study of appropriate infant and toddler (birth to 3 years) programs, including an overview of development, quality caregiving routines, appropriate environments, materials and activities, and teaching/guidance techniques.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Summarize prenatal development and the birth process; discuss theories of development as they apply to infants and toddlers; outline growth and development of children from birth to age 3; analyze components of teacher/child interactions and positive guidance techniques; design learning environments; and select materials and activities for infants and toddlers.

\ 1)  Summarize prenatal development and the birth process.

Grading Criteria

Grading Criteria
\ Weekly Quizzes and Exams =  25% of Final Grade
\ Participation in Weekly Online Discussions and Assignments = 25% of Final Grade
\ Projects = 50% of Final Grade

Grading Scale
\ A = 100 -- 90
\ B =   89 -- 80
\ C =   79 -- 70
\ D =   69 -- 65
\ F =    64 -- 0 

The lowest two quiz and discussion grades will be dropped at the end of the course.

In order to pass the class, all 4 projects have to be completed --  combined they account for 50% of your final grade.  Not doing one will adversely effect your final grade!

Attendance

This is an online class. All assignment, projects, and exams will be done online. It is the student’s responsibility to log in at least 3-4 times each week, check dates on the syllabus and complete assignments, quizzes, and exams on scheduled dates. Late assignments are not accepted.  All modules will be open. All work is due the following Sunday night at 11:59 pm.

• Feel free to ask questions. I am here to help you.
• Respect and honesty guide this course.
• There is peer tutoring available to you at no cost. The Writer’s Corner staff will help you prepare written assignments.  Let the instructor know if you need assistance.
• If for some reason you are unable to complete this course, be sure to notify the instructor and the Registrar’s Office before the last day to drop a class.

This is an online class and weekly completion of all discussion forums and chapter quizzes are expected to be completed on time each week.   All course work for each module will be due at 11:59 pm on Sunday evenings.  I understand that life happens and there are emergencies that come up, however, you have an entire week to complete the homework, so please don’t wait until the last minute to start your homework for the week.

Discussion forums will not be available to post to after the date/time deadline.  Please read carefully and be aware of when things are due.
