WLDG-1372-020 Layout and Fabrication I
Corequisite: MCHN 1343 - minimum grade of C
An introduction to layout as it is applied to development of patterns and drawings for the fabrication of sheet metal and structural shapes. Calculations involve joint/bend allowance and metal forming. Projects develop skills in print interpretation and the use of shears, breaks and hand tools. Â

Students are required to take notes during lectures and to maintain a notebook. Notebooks should contain handouts, reference materials, formula sheets, tests, homework assignments, and task lists. Students will furnish a scientific calculator and PPE to include SAFETY GLASSES. Students shall furnish the required text.
Read safety handouts provided, use common sense, maintain safe shop practices, Keep YOUR lab clean and orderly. Keep all safety shields/guards on equipment in place at all times.Notify the instructor of any faulty wiring, worn or damaged tools, or missing parts. NO HORSEPLAY IS TOLERATED WHATSOEVER. Academic disciplinary measures will be promptly administered. Never enter the shop area without your safety glasses!!
Students shall wear appropriate clothing to perform any assigned task. Come to the shop with the proper tools and equipment specified for the class. Failure to dress for work or to bring the required equipment will count as an absence.
Stealing, vandalism, or pilferage will be dealt with severely! No drugs tobacco,drinks, or food allowed!

Attendance and participation in class and lab is regarded as a requirement and an obligation for learning. Students are responsible for participating in an attendance management system as designated by the instructor. Attendance / participation grades may also reflect homework, class preparation, punctuality, housekeeping, proper dress, and required equipment, supplies, and text. Students should make every effort possible to attend and be on time for all classes. Being more than 20 minutes late for a class or leaving early without the instructor’s permission will be counted as a ½ day absence. ( Being late accumulates---i.e. more than 10 minutes late for 2 classes counts the same as being more than 20 minutes late for a class---- a ½ day absence).
