LNWK-1301-002 Orientation & Line Skill Fundamentals

Prerequisites

Prerequisite: ELPT 1321

Course Description

Examination of utility company operations. Topics include company structure, safety and distribution standards handbook, lineman's tools, vocabulary and work procedures. Discussion of basic electrical systems including the history of power generation and distribution with emphasis on generating plants and substations.

Student Performance

After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to do the following, as evaluated by the faculty of the department/program:

1. Examine utility company operations including company structure, safety and distribution standards handbook.

2.Perform Different types of job related task from a bucket truck and while climbing.

3.Learn the basics of three phase and single phase circuits and how they are constructed.

4.Learn how to work the different types of conductors.

5.learn how to set up utility trucks in different job situations.

Expected Student Behavior

All pagers and cell phones must be turned off or in silent mode in the classroom setting and pagers and cell phones must be turned off while in labs or exams.

Food and drink may be allowed in the classroom setting but is limited to water only in the lab area.

A = 90 to 100; B = 80-89; C = 70-79; D = 60-69; F = Below 60

The opportunity to make-up an exam and/or lab will be determined by the circumstances of each individual, permitted at the discretion of the instructor.

The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor.

Attendance

Attendance in class is regarded as requirement, and obligation for learning. Please remember the deadline for dropping a class at AC is posted online at www.actx.edu.  If you stop attending class and do not officially drop the course by the required deadline, you will receive an “F” for the course.

Students will be warned after one(1) unexcused absence and counseled by the instructor after two(2) absences.

Being tardy three (3) times will be considered one (1) absence.

Two(2) unexcused absences in any one semester may be cause for students to receive a failing grade for the course. Four(4) total absences(excused/or non-excused) will automatically result in the student dropping one(1) letter grade for the course.

Absence in the climb training portion of the course will be unexcused and result result upon failure of the climb training portion and the student will not gain certification unless otherwise indicated by the instructor.

It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed due to absences and to gain missed lecture notes through outside reading and/or note from classmates.

Make up examinations (and other assignments) will be permitted at the discretion of the instructor. The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor.

If you are going to be late or absent, please notify the instructor as soon as possible.

Any student that leaves before or during the lab will not receive credit for that days attendance.
