Students learn advanced Microstation topics including working with cells, customizing the user interface and creating 3-D models.

Supplies

\ Two assignment folders for handing in written work, drawings, and design files.

Student Performance

\  1 - Create a cell library file and create cell entities.

\

\ 2 - Define cells as shared or unshared.

\

\ 3 - Manage cells by variable settings and by the cell selector tool.

\

\ 4 - Create data fields for text.

\

\ 5 - Reference data from external files and models into the existing file and model.

\

\ 6 - Create tag sets and tags to store text data in a design file.

\

\ 7 - Add annotation to a design file using flags.

\

\ 8 - Create custom parametric models and cells using the Dimension-driven design tools.

\

\ 9 - Use the isometric lock and isometric tools to create and dimension an isometric model.

\

\ 10 - Open AutoCAD files and Save design files as AutoCAD files.

\

\ 11 - Reference image files into Microstation and capture images from within Microstation.

\

\ 12 - Create a custom workspace with a custom project and interface.

\

\ 13 - Create a design library file and specify it as the default library file for the custom workspace.

\

\ 14 - Customize the user interface using the default design library file.

\

\ 15 - Add custom linetypes to the custom workspace.

\

\ 16 - Create a 3d file from a 3d seed file.

\

\ 17 - Cover the settings and setup in the 3d interface.

\ 18 - Use 3d entity creation and editing tools to create 3d models.

\ 17 - Use drawing composition tools to create sheet models and to reference in views from design models.

\ It is the responsibility of the student to initiate drop or withdrawal procedures.  Students who stop attending class but do not officially drop or withdraw from this course will receive a letter grade at the end of the semester.

Grading Criteria

A - 89.5 and above

B - 79.5 to 89.4

C - 69.5 to 79.4

D - 59.5 to 69.4

F - 59.4 and below

 

The final grade will be computed as follows: 
 
    Weekly Written Assignments              20%
    Weekly Drawing Assignments            20%
    Three Exams                                      20%
    Three Projects                                    30%
    Final Exam       (Optional)                   10% 
                                                             100%
 

Students will be given assignments each class that include both written and drawing tasks. Written assignments must be printed from a word processor.  Late assignments will be lowered ten points. Assignments later than one week from their due date will assigned a zero.

Students will be given three objective exams on the computer and three drawing projects.  Exam make-ups should be approved ahead of the exam date by the instructor.  Unexcused make-up exams will be written exams and must be completed within one week of the scheduled exam.  Late projects will be lowered ten points and projects will not be accepted after one week from their due date.    The final exam is optional.
