COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Identifies the concepts and principles from the biological, psychological and sociocultural sciences necessary to provide nursing care throughout the life span.
2. Utilize the nursing process to develop nursing care plans for patients experiencing alterations in cardiac output/tissue perfusion, alterations in hormonal balance, alterations in nutrition, alterations in elimination, sensory/perceptual alterations, and alterations in gas exchange.
3. Define illness as a situational crisis.
4. Describe how interpersonal relationships in nursing support the concepts of rehabilitation.
5. Identifies standards and goals necessary for the practice of vocational nursing.
6. Identifies, legal implications involved in the practice of vocational nursing.
7. Identifies, with guidance, own personal strengths and areas for improvement.
8. Identifies aspects of ethical nursing practice.
9. Identify pharmacological concepts as they pertain to disease processes to include actions, dosages, side effects and patient teaching.

Expected Student Behavior

BEHAVIORAL EXPECTIONS/PROFESSIONALISM:

 

Adult and professional behavior is expected at all times.

 

Cell phones and audible pagers should be set to ‘vibrate’ and should not be answered during class. Text messaging is not permitted during class time.  Students will not be allowed to use recording devices of any kind in the classroom- including tape recorders and/or video cameras.

 

 

Each student will adhere to the Student Handbook Policies and Procedures, The Amarillo College VN Honor Code Policy, Social Networking Policy, and all agency policies including HIPPA. Any violation of these policies and procedures may result in failure of the course and possible dismissal from the program.

Grading Criteria

 

GRADE SCALE:

• A=90-100      
• B=80-89
• C=75-79
• D=60-74
• F=Below 60

REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS:

A final grade of 75 is required to pass the course. The following will be used to determine your grade:

            Exams: Respiratory, Neuro, Endocrine/Leadership: 60%

            Quizzes: 5%

            Management ATI: 10%

            Final comprehensive: 25%

It is required that a student who fails an exam make an appointment with the instructor to review the exam and spends at least one hour in tutoring. 

 

Attendance

ATTENDANCE  POLICY:

Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. 90% attendance in class is required to pass the course. Tardiness is documented and is deducted from class time.

A student who misses a class when a quiz is adminsitered will not be allowed to take a make-up
