Student Performance

The purpose of this course is to acquaint you with interpersonal communication theory and research.� Upon completion of this course you should have developed an understanding of the nature of communication during face-to-face encounters.� You should also understand yourself, and how the exchange process influences the outcome of your own interpersonal relationships.� This course will introduce you to methods of competent interpersonal communication that will be valuable to you at work, at home, and at play.

1. Define and explain basic communication terms and principles which undergird competent communication in personal, social, and professional settings
\ 2. Analyze various communication contexts
\ 3. Apply communication principles and theory in diverse circumstances and demonstrate effective communication, distinguishing effective from less effective responses
\ 4. Describe the influence of both verbal and nonverbal messages in communication
\ 5.Find, identify, and effectively use supporting materials in written assignments
\ 6. Define and discuss how best to avoid plagiarism
\ 7. Participate in class and group processes
\ 8. Demonstrate courtesy and respect for classmates

  No administrative withdrawals will be initiated by the instructor. It is the responsibility of the student to withdraw before the deadline.

Grading Criteria

\ 25% - 2 mini papers

\ 25% - 3 Exams

\ 25% -  Discussion Forums

\ 25% - Semester project

\ Any papers turned in late will not be accepted.

\ Discussions after the due date can not be made up.

\ All exams have a lengthy time that they can be taken.  There will be no make up exams.

Attendance

Because this is an online course, attendance is not necessary.  However it is recommended that each student check the onine course at least 2 to 3 times a week.

  Discussion Forums are a large part of this class.  It is necessary to check and read all discussion postings during the course.
