PRECISION MACHINING TECHNOLOGY WORKBOOK and PROJECT MANUAL, 2nd Ed.
An introduction to bench work and layout. Application of the use and theory of tools such as hand tools, height gages, pedestal grinders, and layout tools.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Identify layout and hand tools; describe the proper use of layout and hand tools; list the safety procedures in operating a pedestal grinder; demonstrate proper use of layout tools using precision and semi-precision procedures; adjust clearances on the tool rest and the spark arrestor on the pedestal grinder; perform grinding procedures on twist drills and tool blanks; and perform grinding wheel replacement.

Course Evaluations:
Students should complete all performance tasks on time at REQUIRED MASTERY LEVEL. Tasks, projects, and various assignments will be scored based on time; accuracy; neatness; completeness; procedure; skill; detail; motivation and attitude; safety practices; clean up; care of manuals, logbooks, and references; and other grading criteria. No task shall be rated until assignment is complete and correct. Complete shall include condition and cleanliness of equipment; clean up of work areas; tool condition and return of all supplies and materials to their proper location. Correct means that projects meets all print specifications in order to be graded.
Homework : Textbook, Geometric Construction, Lab Reports, Projects and Final
Textbook Reading: Required readings are to be completed prior to class, this will help you be prepared for class discussion.
Textbook Section Questions: Assigned questions are due no later than the beginning of the first class of the next week. This will allow you a weekend to complete your assignment. You need not write out the question, just the answers in a neat and legible manner.
Geometric Construction Homework: Each problem is to be completed and due no later than the beginning of the first class of the next week.
Lab Reports: Each project rubric will have a process plan submitted, by either a PDF or DOC file attachment on the students college issued e-mail no later than than 24 hours past due date of that project. This process plan will contain such items as speeds and feeds, material type and size, all tooling and machines used as well as a detailed plan of how part was made.
Projects: All project will be submitted with the appropriate project rubric.
Final Exam: A comprehensive final exam will be administered. Failure to take the final exam or complete the final project will result in the student receiving a failing grade for the class.
