BIOL-2402-014 Anatomy and Physiology II
Prerequisite: BIOL 2401
Anatomy and Physiology II is the second part of a two-course sequence. It is a study of the structure and function of the human body including the following systems: endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance) and reproductive (including human development and genetics). Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis. The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology.

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE:
If a student is having a problem with the course policies or the instructor, he or she should first try to resolve any such problems with the instructor. If the problem is not resolved, the student may proceed to the Biology Department Chairman (Dr. Claudie Biggers), the Assistant Dean of Arts & Sciences (Dr. Ferguson), the Associate Vice-President for Instruction (Dr. Vess), or the college President, (Dr. Lowery-Hart), IN THAT ORDER; PLEASE!!!
TESTING and GRADING FOR THE SEMESTER:
The total grade will be based upon both lecture and lab scores. Students must have a combined score of 60% or higher from lecture and lab portions for a passing grade.
LECTURE GRADING:
50% of the lecture grade for the semester will consist of the following
1. major exams
a. at least 4 major exams.
b. lowest exam grade will be dropped.
2. lecture quizzes
a. quiz average will be equal to one major exam grade.
b. pop quizzes may be given.
c. lecture quizzes may be given during the lab period.
d. lowest quiz grade will be dropped.
e. first quiz:
1.) will be over the syllabus
2.) this is the only quiz that may be retaken until a score of 100 is achieved. If a score of 100 is not achieved within 2 weeks, a grade of zero for that quiz will be recorded and no more chances will be given.
There WILL BE NO makeup exams or quizzes given. The first missed exam or quiz will be dropped automatically. A student will have to miss class either for an emergency or non-emergency (this includes, but is not limited to: illness of you, friend, family member; court appearances; delay on way to school; weddings; etc.), in either case, the student is encouraged to save the drop grade for that incident.
CRITICAL NOTE: If a student receives a grade of ZERO for cheating or the appearance of cheating, that grade WILL NOT be dropped. The HIGHEST grade for a quiz or lab exam will be dropped.
LABORATORY GRADING:
25% of the lab grade for the semester will consist of the following
1. lab practicals (40%)
2. lab quizzes (60%)
Note: The lowest lab quiz will be dropped.
CRITICAL NOTE: If a student receives a grade of ZERO for cheating or the appearance of cheating, that grade WILL NOT be dropped. The HIGHEST grade for a quiz or an exam will be dropped.
LECTURE FINAL EXAM:
25% of the lecture grade (not counted above) for the semester will consist of the following

A= 100-88.5
B= 88.4-78.5

Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the SOLE responsibility of the student to attend class. Attendance will be taken until the census day, __February 3rd _, after that date attendance may not be taken.
A grade of W will be given for a student who drops or withdraws from the course on or before __April 21st _. The student may NOT drop or withdraw from the course after __ April 21st _ without the permission of the Biology Department. You must petition the Biology Department to withdraw from the course after the drop date.

You may bring food & drink into the lecture room, however, if you spill something please clean up after yourself. Food & drinks are allowed in the lab room, however there may be some inappropriate times for not bringing such items.
CELL PHONES:
Cell phones are not prohibited, however please be considerate of others. Please keep all cell phones on silent or vibrate mode. If it is necessary that you answer the call please step outside the classroom to complete the call. Absolutely no calls shall be taken during a quiz, exam, or lab practical. Answering the phone during such times will result in a grade of zero for that quiz, exam, or lab practical.

Bad Weather:
In the event that the campus is closed because of inclement weather, the quiz, exam or lab practical scheduled on the day that the campus was closed will be taken on the next opening day of class.
If class is canceled because I am ill, see bad weather procedure. Unless Substitute is available.

_____ I fully understand that if I cheat on any test I will receive an automatic “F” in the course. This grade will go on my permanent transcript and cannot be removed. Cheating includes but is not limited to: the illegal use of books, notes, copying or photographing any test material, leaving the Science Testing Center with a test, and the use of any electronic devices such as unapproved calculators, cell phones, smart watches, laptops, tablets, etc. Cheating also includes helping or attempting to help other students to cheat on a test.
_____ Please Note: Cell phones or any other electronic devices are NOT allowed in the testing room at any time for any reason. If we see any electronic devices out AT ANY TIME, FOR ANY REASON, while in the testing room, your test WILL be taken up immediately and may result in an “F” for the course.

_____I understand if I score below a 70 on any exam, I must complete a mandatory tutoring session with my instructor or the Science Enrichment Center before requesting the next exam (excluding the Final Exams week). Science Testing Center RULES
- Books and personal items must be placed on the bookshelf before you take your test but, remember, Amarillo College
is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Items are better left at home ot at another safe location
- To take a test, fill out a “Test Request” slip.
- An Amarillo College picture ID is required in order to take or view any test in the Science Testing Center.
- No unapproved scratch paper is allowed for testing. You may use the back of the test or scratch paper from the STC to
show your extra work. Once you have begun work on a test that is considered one attempt. You cannot leave the
Science Testing Center and return to finish that test at a later time.
- In the testing room, please do not sit by someone with the same colored test.
- The Science Testing Center will not give any tests out later that 1.5 hours before closing.
- The Science Testing Center personnel will pick up your test five minutes prior to closing time.
- Tests may not be taken out of the Science Testing Center.
- The Science Testing Center hours are posted on the outside door, in your syllabus, and Science Testing Center.
- Please come prepared. If you do not have a pencil, you may purchase one from the Science Testing Center for 25
cents. Please bring exact change. Pens are not allowed on any scantron.
- Children may not accompany students into testing room or be left unattended anywhere on campus.
- CELL PHONE CACULATORS or any other non-approved calculators ARE NOT ALLOWED in the testing
area. Cell phones placed on the bookshelf must be turned off.
- Students will have to wait for their test results from their instructor.
I have read and understand all of the above rules and requirements. Any violation of any of the above outlined rules or requirements will result in an immediate seizure of my test along from the Science Testing Center, which will result in further disciplinary actions and a possible “F” for my course.
