A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills and concepts to clients on medical surgical units. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional.

BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS AND CLASSROOM GROUND RULES:

1. Students are full partners in fostering a classroom environment which is conducive to learning. In order to assure that all students have the opportunity to gain from time spent in class, unless otherwise approved by the instructor; students are prohibited from engaging in any form of behavior that detracts from the learning experience of fellow students. Inappropriate behavior in the classroom may result in a request from the instructor for the offending student to leave the class.

GRADING CRITERIA/GRADING SCALE:
The following criteria will be used to determine the course grade:
1. A=90-100, B=80-89.9, C=75-79.9, D=60-74.9, F=below 60. There will be no rounding of grades. For example, a 79.6 is a "C" and will not be rounded to an "80" or "B".
2. 100% of the clinical grade is determined by the performance of clinical competencies on the Clinical Performance Evaluation of Competencies (CPEC) with Intravenous Push Competency, Clinical Analysis Project, and graded Health Assessment. There will be no rounding of grades on the CPEC
Competencies will be assigned a “4”, “3”, “2”, “1”or “0”. A score of “0” in one or more competencies will result in clinical failure. Please see the CPEC Guidelines in this course syllabus.
3. Students must attend and participate in all clinical simulation experiences.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
\
Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend clinical. Students must attend 100% of the clinical days.
\
COURSE SCHEDULE/OUTLINE:
Most rotations will be conducted on Thursday and Friday (8 clinical days). A “day” clinical rotation will begin at 0630 and end at 1600. A Monday rotation will be 6 clinical days and will begin at 0630 and end at 1900.
