General principles of digital image processing and electronic painting. Emphasis on bitmapped or raster-based image marking and the creative aspects of electronic illustration for commercial and fine art applications.

 Course Description: Digital imaging using raster image editing and/or image creation software: scanning, resolution, file formats, output devices, color systems, and image-acquisitions.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Identify terminology, advantages and limitations of image editing software; distinguish bit-mapped resolutions for image acquisitions and output devices; use digital editing and painting tools; use basic half-tone theory in production of images, manipulate, create, and edit digital images for print and for web; specify appropriate file formats.

                                         Specific Performance/Learning Objectives (minimum competencies)

                                                A) Exhibit knowledge of the tools used in the painting program.

                                                B) Produce print communication design using the painting program.

                                                C) Exhibit understanding of editing & production of designs produced.

Expected Student Behavior

—WHILE IN CLASS: A student friendly environment is needed for learning. There are FIVE (5) guidelines each student must adhere to.

1). NO headphones in class during lecture.

2). NO internet usage in class unless specified by instructor.

\ \

3). NO undesirable visual or verbal communication.

\ \

4). NO eating or drinking in the lab.

\ \

5) Cell phones must be turned to quite mode or OFF.

\ \

Continual disregard for set guidelines will result in removal from class and a zero (0) for day which will be averaged with the rest of your grades.

Grading Criteria

GRADING:      Having the proper tools the student will complete all tasks required. The instructor will provide lecture, demonstration and or group discussion to help the student complete each task.

                       —The nature of the Industry dictates that anyone with below entry levels skills will not be hired in the workforce: therefore, any student with below a grade average of a 70 will receive an “F” for the class.

\ \

0-69 = F,   70-79 = C (average skills),    80-89 = B (needs improving),   90-100 = A (excellent skills)

\ \

                                                                        Final course grade will be determined by;

A. student’s attendance record  B. attitude in class  C. work ethics  D. industry standard quality of tasks.

                                        Industry Standards are as follows.

    NO EXCEPTIONS!                               —Late work violates industry standards; therefore, a grade of “0” will be given to the student.

    NO EXCEPTIONS!                               —Anyone caught cheating or plagiarizing copyright material will receive an “F” for the class.

ATTENDANCE:                                          —Students are allowed one (1) week of absences from class. Student’s final grade will be lowered by one letter grade for each additional abscence. One point off final grade average for every week of tardiness.

    NO EXCEPTIONS!                 2 absences = NO ACTION            2 tardiness = 1        POINT OFF FINAL GRADE

    NO EXCEPTIONS!                 4 absences = 1 LETTER GRADE      4 tardiness = 2 POINTS OFF FINAL GRADE

    NO EXCEPTIONS!                6 absences = 2 LETTER GRADES        6 tardiness = 3 POINTS OFF FINAL GRADE
