  DESCRIPTION OF COURSE (as in catalog):

  Course Description: Skills-based course in the applications of forensic analysis software. Tools used in this course may include EnCase, ILook, Forensic Tool Kit, write blockers, StegAlyzerSS, "X-Ways", ProDiscover Basic, and others.

  End-of-Course Outcomes: Demonstrate data collection from digital devices using multiple forensic-based tools; demonstrate methods of detecting digital information concealed or protected by steganography, encryption, and other methods; utilize "hashing" and other digital means to identify files and verify the accuracy of digital copies of original evidence; present a report of forensic analysis and findings.

  Expected Student Behavior

  1.      Students are expected to maintain a high standard of individual honor in their scholastic work.  Students who are guilty of cheating, plagiarism, copying, or dishonesty may be excluded from class with a grade of F; or, in flagrant cases, may be suspended from the College.  The faculty of the CIS Department reserves the right to ask a student to verify any portion of a test by reproducing any specific section or all of the test in question.

  2.      Any action that comprises the computer systems at Amarillo College, including but not limited to hacking or cracking, can result in a grade of “F” in this course and possible further disciplinary action.

  3.      Cell phones MUST be turned off or set so ringing cannot be heard for the duration of the entire class.  If a cell phone can be heard in class during class time, points may be deducted from the final course grade.  Emergency calls may be left with campus security, who will then contact the designated student.

  Grading Criteria

  Grading Criteria/Grading Scale:

       A - Superior, Minimum of 90% average on exams and quizzes plus

             all homework turned in with 100% average on that graded.

       B - Good, Between 80% and 89% average on exams and quizzes plus

             all homework turned in with a minimum average of 80% on that graded.

       C - Adequate, Between 70% and 79% average on all work.

       D - Minimum, Between 60% and 69% average on all work.

       F - Failing, Below 60% average on all work.

   

  The following criteria will be used to determine your grade:

  REQUIRED COURSEWORK:

   All Chapter Exams will be taken in Blackboard. You will only have one attempt on each exam. All exams have open availability so feel free to work ahead.

  Assignment, homework, quiz, and test dates are provided for each student at the beginning of the semester.  It will be your responsibility to complete each assignment, all homework, and take exams on the scheduled dates.

  Attendance

   

   

  Attendance in class is regarded as requirement, and obligation for learning. Please remember the deadline for dropping a class at AC is published in the official Amarillo College Schedule of Classes. If you stop attending class and do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an “F” for the course.

  Students will be warned and after two (2) absences and counseled by the instructor after three (3) absences.

  Being tardy three (3) times will be considered one (1) absence.

  Four (4) unexcused absences in any one semester may be cause for students to receive a failing grade for the course. Six (6) total absences (excused/or non-excused will automatically result in the student dropping one (1) letter grade for the course unless otherwise indicated by the instructor.

  It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed due to absences and to gain missed lecture notes through outside reading and/or note from classmates.

  Make up examinations (and other assignments) will be permitted at the discretion of the instructor. The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor.

  If you are going to be late or absent, please notify the instructor as soon as possible.

  ** Outside of class lab time will be required.**

  This course requires work outside of class. The computer labs, located 2^nd floor BYRD, are open:

  Mon –Thur: 7:00 am to 10:00 pm
  Fri – Sat: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  Sun: 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm
