MCHN-1338-001 Basic Machine Shop I
Prerequisite: MCHN 1332 - minimum grade of C
A course that introduces the student to machining fundamentals. The student begins by using basic machine tools including the lathe, milling machine, drill press, power saw and bench grinder. Machine terminology, theory, math, part layout and bench work using common measuring tools is included. Emphasis is placed on shop safety, housekeeping and preventative maintenance.

\\ End-of-Course Outcomes: Demonstrate proper use of the lathe, milling machine, drill press, power saw, and bench grinder applying good housekeeping, proper safety, and preventative maintenance. Perform bench work including part layout, drilling, reaming, taping, press fitting, location of hole centers and surfaces; set up power saws for cutoff operation; demonstrate tooling maintenance, hazardous material handling, and preventative maintenance.

Projects:
Projects will be turned submitted on calendar date. Projects will be graded on accuracy and finish, if a project has to be remade, a letter grade deduction will be made on rubric project grade for each remake. Project remake will not change project due date.
Homework/ Log Book: Homework will be assigned for the specific project requirements and be kept in your Homework/Logbook note book. Other items contained in the note book will be process plan, machine/ tool requirements, material requirements and all related calculations. Instructor will review note book prior to student machining project.
Final: A comprehensive final test will be administered.
Attendance in class and lab participation is regarded as a requirement and an obligation for learning. Attendance and participation are graded on the Daily Rubric.
