Expected Student Behavior

Students are required to show professionalism, discipline, attention, respect, participation, and cooperation

Grading Criteria

Grades will be posted as a percentage of 100 (100% is perfect), and as a letter grade

Grading Schema:

A = 89.5% - 100%
B = 79.5% - 89%
C =69.5% - 79%
D = 59.5% -69%
F = 0% -59%

Criteria

All drawings in Drawing 1 will be monochromatic (black and white and gray, or browns in the Conte’ crayon media). During each class period there will be instruction by demonstration, examples, drawing in the classroom and plein air, tours, and videos. Most class periods you will draw several objects “live and in front of you” in the classroom or out on location. You normally will not draw from magazines, books and photographs, unless otherwise assigned.

Your required drawings will be drawn on 18” x 24” DRAWING paper and in your sketchbook. Newsprint paper will be used to cover-flap drawings that will smear, such as charcoal drawings. You will draw on one side of the 18”x24” drawing tablet paper.

You will also be graded on your sketchbook assignments and content. Your sketchbook will become an artistic journal that will contain drawings, writings, philosophies, scrapbooking, etc. Pages should look dense. You may be expected to exhibit the sketchbook. Be sure your name is on the sketchbook, and do not remove pages from your sketchbook.

There will be frequent class discussions and critiques. The instructor will also help you individually. If you have questions or need help, do not hesitate to ask. You may expect to produce several dozens of drawings during the semester. Some will not be successful and some will be worthy of a good grade.

Each graded project will be assigned on sheet with details and deadline so there will be few misunderstandings. Each graded drawing will be drawn on your 18”x24” drawing tablet. Remove drawings from the drawing tablet that you wish to be graded. Trim off any perforations. Print your name and the assignment on the back of the drawing paper. Flap charcoal drawings with newsprint paper (we do not spray-fix our drawings). Deadlines are usually final.

Attendance

No more than 2 class periods may be missed without approval from the instructor. After two “free” absences, the final class grade will be reduced for each unexcused absence, and you will be advised by the instructor concerning continuing or withdrawing from the course.

\ \

Under special circumstances, students must contact instructor for opportunity to make-up attendance. Written documentation concerning reason for missing required deadline.
