Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

  • consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
  • consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
  • consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
  • consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
    • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

Basic skills course that develops and reinforces reading, math and writing skills with special emphasis on math to meet TSI requirements.

Student Performance

This is a competency-based course, which means that once you can demonstrate you have mastered the skills this course teaches, you will then have completed the course.  Mastery is demonstrated through ongoing evaluation of your learning. The course including the final exam must be completed by 10:00 pm on December 13, 2016. 

 

COURSE CREDIT: 

Three hours semester credit will be received.  (3 sem hrs; 2 lec, 2 lab)

These credits may not be applied toward an Associate Degree and are not transferable to another institution; however, this course prepares students to pass the TSI exam and/or to be successful in college-level classes.

If you receive financial aid, check with a financial aid advisor before dropping this course. If you fail this course, you may be placed on Academic or Financial Aid Suspension/Probation.

Expected Student Behavior

Student Rights and Responsibilities

Students are expected to be supportive of the learning environment in this course. Behaviors that are not supportive include but are not limited to:

  • Cheating or academic dishonesty as outlined in “Student Rights and Responsibilities.”
  • Using language that is abusive, offensive or disrespectful in emails, or any means of communication.

Students who fail to comply with the standards outlined in the syllabus and/or “Student Rights & Responsibilities” will be subject to disciplinary action which may include but is not limited to:       

  • Consultation with the Learning Center Coordinator and/or other AC authority.
  • Withdrawal from the course and/or the college.

 

Additional Expectations:

This is an online course.  It is your responsibility to:

  1.  Ensure access to a computer with a dependable internet connection.
  2.  To be committed to at least 10-20 hours each week to complete the required assignments for each week.
  3.  To get help when technical difficulties occur. It is your responsibility to contact HAWKES' technicians as soon as possible.

Please note that I'm here to help you and to ensure that you are getting the help and the support that you need to be successful in this course. If technical difficulties occur or if you need a deadline extension for that week's assignments (no more than 2 days), please contact me via email as soon as possible.

The following criteria will be used to determine your grade:

 A   90-100  Passing
B  80-89  Passing
C  70-79  Passing
D  60-69  Failing
F  59 or below  Failing

 

The semester average will be determined as follows:

  30%  Lessons
  40%  Tests
  30%  Final Exam

To view your current course grades -

  • Go to www.actx.edu, click on AC Connect, and then log in.  (If needed, ask an instructor for help.)
  • Click on your course.
  • Click on My Grades on the menu to the left.  You will only see the attendance portion of your grade until the end of the semester.

To view your Final course grades

  • Go to www.actx.edu, click on AC Connect, and then log in.
  • Scroll down to Self Service on bottom right of the page, and click on Current Student.
  • Under current student, click on Academic Profile and then Grades.

There is no mandatory attendance required for this course. However, in order to be successful, you are expected to work at least 10-20 hours each week to complete the weekly assignments.

For additional help with this online class, you may visit the Success Center located on the 3rd floor of the Ware Student Commons building, Room 300 on the Washington Street Campus.

Instructors will be available to help you during the center's regular hours:

Monday-Thursday:      8:00 am – 8:30 pm                      

Friday:                          8:00 am – 12:30 pm                          

Sunday:                        2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
