This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals, concepts, strategies, applications and contemporary trends related to understanding personal and/or community health issues. This course also focuses on empowering various populations with the ability to practice healthy living, promote healthy lifestyles and enhance individual well-being.

Make-up tests must be scheduled with the instructor.
The student is responsible for logging into the class and checking the lessons and calendar online for assignments and due dates.

This class is designed to:
1. To increase your understanding of the elements that contribute to a "wellness"-oriented lifestyle.
2. To encourage you to take responsibility for maintaining your own health.
3. To help you understand the risks to your health and their potential for causing illness and even death.
4. To increase your knowledge of the most important health risks to the worlds population.
5. To provide you with knowledge of the progress made in science and medicine in the 20th century and to prepare you for the issues of the 21st century.
6. To broaden your understanding of the most frequently used treatment options available in medicine today.
7. To eliminate misconceptions, fallacies, and confusion you may have concerning modern health issues.
8. To aid you in understanding the role that government plays in the health of its population.
9. To instill knowledge that will help you be active in encouraging legislation that promotes the health of the population.
10. To encourage you to begin or continue optimal health practices that will serve as models for the generations to come.
