Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

  • consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
  • consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
  • consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
  • consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
    • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

ECON-2301-003 Principles of Macroeconomics

Prerequisites

Prerequisite: MATH-0303, RDNG 0331-minimum grade of C or a score on a state-approved test indicating college-level reading and math skills

Course Description

An analysis of the economy as a whole including measurement and determination of Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply, national income, inflation and unemployment. Other topics include international trade, economic growth, business cycles, and fiscal policy and monetary policy.

Student Performance

Student Performance: By the end of the course students will be able to:

  1. Successfully understand the scope and method of economics.
  2. Construct a production possibility curve and describe how it illustrates basic economic concepts.
  3. Understand the Economic Problem and the tradeoff between scarcity and choice.
  4. Understand and apply Supply and Demand applications.
  5. Successfully understand and explain Macroeconomics as a whole.
  6. Understand and be able to explain how to measure national output and national income, and why it is important to measure.
  7. Be competent in explaining unemployment, inflation, and long-run growth.
  8. Delve into the core of Macroeconomic Theory by understanding aggregate expenditure and equilibrium output.
  9. Understand the government and fiscal policy, how the government can influence fiscal policy, and what kind of effects changes can have on the economy as a whole.
  10. Understand the workings of the money supply and the federal reserve system.
  11. Be able to describe money demand and the equilibrium interest rate and why it’s important.

By the end of the semester the student will be able to satisfactorily complete all the learning objectives listed in the Student Performance/Learning Objectives with a minimum of 60 percent competency level based on the completion of the exams and other assignments administered under the supervision of the instructor.

Expected Student Behavior

Expected Student Behavior:

Be on time and prepared for classroom discussion. If food and drink is allowed by the instructor then courtesy of disposing of items is required. Turn off all cell phones and pagers or place on vibrating mode. Study materials will not be permitted while taking tests.

Grading Criteria

The final course grade will consist of an average of:

A = 100 to 89.5

B = 79.5 to 89.4

C = 69.5 to 79.4

D = 59.5 to 69.4

F =  59.4 and below

Grading Criteria:

The course grade will consist of a midterm and a final. The final will be cumulative and mandatory. You will also have chapter quizzes, 3 total. You will have a writing assignment that will be worth 10% of your grade. Quizzes will be worth 35% of your grade, and tests will be worth 55%, with each test bearing the same weight.   Late exams will earn a score of "0".  Extra credit is not offered; no grades will be dropped.

Attendance

It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed due to absences and to gain missed lecture information through outside reading and/or notes from classmates. Assignments will not be accepted past the due date for any reason.  The final exam cannot be made up.

Working with others or with study material on exams is considered cheating and will result in a grade of "0".

This course in not self-paced.  Students are expected to check the course shell frequently for class information.

Attendance will be tracked for those students who are receiving financial aid and/or VA benefits.
