Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

• consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
• consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
• consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
• consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
  • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

Log in using the AC Connect Portal

In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

1. Students are required to adhere to Amarillo College Student Code of Conduct as outlined in the publication Student Rights and Responsibilities.  Students failing to perform according to established standards may be subject to disciplinary action.
2. Students are expected to arrive to class on time and prepared. 
3. Disruptive behavior, such as leaving and reentering the classroom, carrying on private conversations, etc., is not conducive to a proper learning environment and will not be tolerated.
4. Cell phones, pagers and music players must be silenced and put away during all class periods.
5. Satisfactory performance for this course requires the completion of all online activities and quizzes, reading assignments and in-class activities.

 

Grading Criteria

The final grade for this course is based on the following:

1. Seven (7) assignments (50 points each for a total of 350 points)
2. Two (2) attendance/participation grades (50 points each for a total of 100 points)
3. Three(3) exams (50 points each for a total of 150 points)
4. One (1) comprehensive final exam (150 points)

Class attendance and participation grades will are required.  There will be two days (marked with ** on calendar) that the student must attend in order to receive the points.  These days can not be made up and will be recorded as a zero if the student is not in attendance.

Exams must be taken on the assigned days.  If an exam is missed, the student will receive a zero (0) in the grade book. Exams are open for one week.  Do not wait until the last minute just in case there are technical difficulties. 

All lessons will be posted as a PowerPoint with a recorded lecture.  Each lesson will have an assignment.  Lectures and assignments will open at 0600 on Monday mornings and close the following Sunday night at midnight.  You must get your assignments taken care of on time.  NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. 

The number of points earned by a student will be divided by the maximum possible points for this course (750).  The result will be expressed as a percent and converted to a final letter grade.  The grading scale for this course is as follows:

A= 89.5-100% (672-750 points)

B= 79.5-89.4% (597-671 points)

C= 74.5-79.4% (559-596 points)

F= <74.4% (<558 points)

 

Students must score a 75% in order to pass this course.

 

There will be two (2) lessons that are scheduled for in-class meetings. Each lesson is worth 50 points and can not be rescheduled due to absense.  If you are absent, you will receive a zero (0) in the grade book.

1. On Thursday, April 6^th @ 1135, students will meet at NWTH with a clinical instructor to discuss transports and tour Lifestar.
2. On Thursday, April 13^th @ 1145, students will meet in the Respiratory Classroom to welcome a guest speaker.  The topic is Hyperbaric Medicine.

Attendance

Regular attendance (logging in and completing online assignments)  is necessary for satisfactory achievement.

Tutoring Policy:

To meet course requirements, students who do not achieve the minimum passing score of 75% on any Section Exam are required to:

• Meet with the course instructor to receive a prescription for tutoring at the West Campus Tutoring Center.
• Attend a prescribed tutoring session with a Tutor at the West Campus Tutoring Center prior to the course’s next exam.
• Return the completed prescription, verified by the tutor’s signature, to the ordering faculty member.

Required tutoring will be prescribed each time a student does not achieve the minimum passing score of 75% on a Section Exam.

Students who do not complete the required tutoring will not be allowed to take the course’s next exam.

Students who do not complete the required tutoring and are not allowed to take the next exam will earn a grade of zero for that exam.
