Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

  • consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
  • consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
  • consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
  • consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
    • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

PHRA-1306-001 Computerized Drug Delivery Systems I

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: PHRA 1301 and PHRA 1309

Course Description

Fundamentals of computer information systems and technology within the health care system. Includes specialized skills in the production of pharmaceutical documentation using selected pharmacy software packages and an overview of equipment and devices for drug distribution, preparation and manufacturing. Also covers mechanical, automatic and robotic drug delivery systems.

Student Performance

(minimum competencies) After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to do the following as evaluated by the faculty in the department/program.
Upon completion of PHRA 1306, the student will be able to:

  1. Use manual or computer-based information systems to perform job-related activities such as update prices, generate reports and labels, and perform utilization tracking and inventory.
  2. Work with software for automated dispensing technology, including point-of-care drug dispensing cabinets.
  3. Identify and discuss the role of a pharmacy technician in different pharmacy settings.
  4. Evaluate a drug prescription order using company software.
  5. Understand the distribution of medications in both the community and hospital pharmacy settings.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of the computer-based drug delivery systems utilized in various pharmacy settings
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of basic pharmacy technician regulations in Texas.

Expected Student Behavior

Adult, professional behavior is expected at all times.
Academic dishonesty will result in a final grade of "F" for the course. Any attempt to cheat will be considered as academic dishonesty and will result in a final grade of “F” for the course. Keep up with the lessons and do not procrastinate.

Grading Criteria

The final course grade will be computed as follows:
*Assignments = 50%
*The final exam  = 50%


The following grade scale applies:
A = 95-100%
B = 85-94%
C = 75-84%
F = Less than 75%

Considering that this is an online course, students will not be allowed to make-up exams, homework, or quizzes. The student will receive a grade of ZERO for anything missed.
**With regard to exams only, the instructor will consider only written petitions for emergency situations and undue hardships on an individual basis. The decision of the instructor to accept or reject the petition is final. The process must be initiated by the student and occur within 48 hours of the missed class period.

Week 1: To begin you must install the software that is included with your text book Pharmacy Management Software for Pharmacy Technicians A Work Text Second Edition by DAA Enterprises, Inc. Follow the directions under Installation. Let me know if you are having any difficulties.

                       After installation submit Assignment One under Lessons Tab.

Go to www.asapnet.orgthe website for the American Society for Automation in Pharmacy. Click on the button to “Download Presentations from Past Meetings”, select a presentation, review the slides, and write a brief summary of the presentation. Save as Assignment 8 Exercise 2. Submit via the designated drop box.
