Office hours may fluctuate due to clinical, and multiple courses and lecture times.  Please feel free to reach out to me to schedule a time via email.  Most days I am on campus either in the office or lecturing in the classroom.

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

  • consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
  • consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
  • consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
  • consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
    • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

Course Description

A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional.

Supplies

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

Navy nursing uniform, navy blue lab jacket with AC Vocational Nursing patch, white closed toed shoes (no clogs or slip ons), stethoscope, pen, NCP forms, paper,penlight, medical scissors, watch with second hand or seconds display, and Clinical portfolio for each week.

Student Performance

 

Upon completion of the clinical experience the Student Vocational Nurse will be able to:

 

  •  Identify the concepts and principles from the biological, psychological and sociocultural sciences necessary to provide nursing care throughout the life span.

 

  •     Implement skills and basic principles of care as they apply to the disease process.

 

  • -   Demonstrate the ability to communicate with other health care disciplines in providing holistic care.

 

  • -    Utilize the nursing process to provide nursing care for adult and geriatric clients adapting to illness.

 

  • -    Utilize basic concepts of pharmacology in safely administering medication.

 

  • -    Implement standards of care necessary for the practice of Vocational nursing.

 

  • -    Implement nursing practice with the legal and ethical realm of Vocational nursing.

Expected Student Behavior

BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS/CLINICAL GROUND RULES

Cell phones and audible pagers are not permitted in the clinical areas. Telephones on the clinical unit are not to be used by students for personal calls.   All outside EMERGENCY calls are to be channeled through the instructor.

GRADE SCALE:

A= 100-90  ( 4 )     B= 89-80 ( 3 )   C= 79-75 ( 2 )  D= 74.9-61 ( 1 )   F= Below 60

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to have 100% clinical attendance.  ALL STUDENTS are required to attend the ATI live review.  Those who do not attend WILL NOT GRADUATE!!!

Calendar

CLINICAL SCHEDULE

Students will receive clinical schedules after the course is in progress. Clinicals will be on Wednesdays beginning on 3-1-17 through 4-12-17 at various medical facilities.  Times will vary depending on the clinical site.
