Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

• consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
• consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
• consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
• consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
  • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

ITCC-2308-001 Cisco Exploration 3 - LAN Switching and Wireless

Prerequisites

Prerequisite: ITCC 1304

Course Description

This course helps students develop an in-depth understanding of how switches operate and are implemented in the LAN environment for small and large networks. Detailed explanations of LAN switch operations, VLAN implementation, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), Inter-VLAN routing and wireless network operations. Analyze, configure, verify and troubleshoot VLANs, RSTP, VTP and wireless networks. Campus network design and Layer 3 switching concepts are introduced.

Student Performance

 End-of-Course Outcomes:  Identify and correct common network problems at layers 1, 2, 3, and 7 using a layered model approach; select the appropriate media, cables, ports, and connectors to connect switches to other devices and hosts; perform and verify initial switch configuration tasks including remote access management; configure, verify, and troubleshoot VLANs, VLAN Trunking, Inter-VLAN routing, VTP, and RSTP; verify network status and switch operation using basic utilities (ping, traceroute, telnet, SSH, arp, ipconfig); identify and describe the purpose of the components in a small wireless network (SSID, BSS, ESS); and identify the basic parameters to configure on a wireless network to ensure that devices connect to the correct point.

Expected Student Behavior

It is the policy of the Career and Technical Education Division and the Electronics Program that pagers and cell phones must be turned off or in silent mode in the classroom setting and pagers and cell phones must be turned off while in labs.

It is the policy of the Career and Technical Education Division and the Electronics Program that food and drink may be allowed in the classroom setting, at the discretion of the instructor, but food and drink are not allowed in labs.

Grading Criteria

 

The final grade will be computed as follows:
Final Exam	20%
Chapter Exams	30%
Labs	30%
Attendance	10%
Journal	10%

    A     Superior, >89.5% average on graded work.

Lab Grade will be 100% if all labs are complete, minus 11 points for each chapter lab assignment not complete.

The opportunity to make-up an exam and/or lab will be determined by the circumstances of each individual, permitted at the discretion of the instructor.

The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor.

INSTRUCTOR'S STATEMENT: As your instructor, I am always willing to discuss your grades with you and explain how your grade was determined. If a grading error has been made on my part, I am always willing to correct the error.

Attendance

Attendance in class is regarded as requirement, and obligation for learning. Please remember the deadline for dropping a class at AC is published in the official Amarillo College Schedule of Classes.  If you stop attending class and do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an “F” for the course.

Students will be warned and after two (2) absences and counseled by the instructor after three (3) absences.

Being tardy three (3) times will be considered one (1) absence.

Four (4) unexcused absences in any one semester may be cause for students to receive a failing grade for the course. Six (6) total absences (excused/or non-excused will automatically result in the student dropping one (1) letter grade for the course unless otherwise indicated by the instructor.

It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed due to absences and to gain missed lecture notes through outside reading and/or note from classmates.

Make up examinations (and other assignments) will be permitted at the discretion of the instructor. The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor.

If you are going to be late or absent, please notify the instructor as soon as possible.

**Out of class Lab work will be required.**
