Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

  • consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
  • consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
  • consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
  • consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
    • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

1.  The student should read assignments prior to class and be prepared to discuss topics covered in class.  Students will be called on to share their understanding of these topics.

2.  All students are responsible for their own work.  Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated, a zero will be given for that assignment or exam and the instructor may give an F for the course. 

3.  Students should not engage in conversations during class unless it is directly related to the course or the material being covered.  Please refrain from private conversations or any other activities which may distract other learners.

4.  I want all students to be successful.  I believe cell phones distract from the learning environment.  For this reason, they should be turned to silent and placed in the blue cloth pouch before we begin class.  Phones will be returned to the owner at the end of class.  If you are expecting a call from a physician, please see me in advance.  If you bring a laptop or other technological device to class, it should not be used for activities other than taking class notes or testing purposes.

Grading Criteria

  1. The final course grade is based on the following:
    33% - Attendance and participation in classroom discussions.  Each class meeting is worth 12.5 points for a total of 150 points from the 12 class meetings. (Points assigned to participation in class discussions are based on the frequency and quality of the participation.)
    33% - Average grade on 10 computer-based clinical simulations.  The value for each SIM is 15 points for a total of 150 points. 
    34% - Score on final exam consisting of 10 computer-based clinical simulations.  This is your practice Clinical Simulation Exam for your RRT.  The final exam is worth 155 points. 
  2. The grading scale for this course is:
    A = 455-409.5 points
    B = 409-364 points
    C = 363-341 points
    F = less than 341 points
  3. There is no extra credit offered in this course.
  4. Students may request a printed grade report at any time during the semester.

Attendance

Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. In the event of an unavoidable absence, it is the responsibility of the student to obtain missed lecture notes and arrange for make-up exams.

Calendar

One instructor driven clinical simulation will be completed during each class period.  Students are expected to participate in both the information-gathering and decision-making components of each simulation.

Students are required to complete 10 clinical simulations either during the scheduled lab, or outside of scheduled class times.
