Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

• consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
• consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
• consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
• consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
  • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

1.  Incorporate an ethical-legal framework and applicable professional standards into the care of adults and families with behavioral disorders.

2.  Evaluate own personal and professional development in psychiatric mental health nursing practice.

3.  Participate in activities that promote the development and practice of psychiatric mental health nursing.

Provider of Patient-Centered Care

1.  Practice with increased confidence and skill to assist in the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health of adult patients and families with behavioral disorders.

2.  Utilize a systematic process and clinical reasoning to implement holistic patient-centered care for adults and families with behavioral disorders.

3.  Integrate nursing concepts specific to meeting unique psychosocial needs of patients and families with behavioral disorders.

4.  Demonstrate the principles of health teaching in the care of adults and families with behavioral disorders.

5.  Utilize basic nursing skills in the care of patients with behavioral disorders.

6.  Demonstrate compassionate behaviors and appropriate psychosocial communication skills in the care of diverse adults and families with behavioral disorders.

Student performance and learning objectives

As outlined in the learning plan:  apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry.

 Students must attend 100% of the clinical days.

Grading Criteria

1. A=90-100, B=80-89, C=75-79, D=60-69, F=below 60
2. 100% of the clinical grade is determined by the performance of clinical competencies on the clinical performance evaluation of competencies (CPEC).  Competencies will be assigned a ‘3’, ‘2’, ‘1’, and ‘0’.  A score of ‘0’ in one or more competencies will result in a clinical failure.  Please see the CPEC guidelines in this course syllabus.

Attendance

Regular classroom attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement.  Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend clinical.  Students must attend 100% of the clinical days.
