Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a class must:

  • consult with their instructor to obtain a signed academic withdrawal request form to submit to the AskAC department for processing
  • consult with the financial aid office if receiving financial aid
  • consult with the Veterans Benefit Coordinator if receiving veteran benefits
  • consult with their academic advisor to determine how withdrawing may affect their enrollment in future semesters
    • NOTE:  The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education. (Senate Bill 1231) Rule 4.10.

Prerequisites: RNSG 1247, RNSG 1151 and RNSG 2101
Corequisite: RNSG 2161

Course Description

Principles and concepts of mental health, psychopathology and treatment modalities related to the nursing care of patients and their families. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

As outlined in the learning plan:  apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry.

Attendance policy

Regular classroom attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement.  90% attendance is required to meet this requirement.

Grading Criteria

Grading criteria/grade scale

  1. A=90-100, B=80-89, C=75-79, D=60-69, F=below 60
  2. Three module examinations 25% for each exam = 75% of course grade.
  3. Final is worth 20% of the course grade.
  4. One EVOLVE mental health specialty examination will be administered toward the end of the semester.  HESI specialty exam for 5% of course. 
  5. HESI remediation is to be completed by the Friday before the final exam as verified by the instructor.  The number of hours needed is based upon the HESI specialty exam score.

1000 or higher, no remediation is required, but it is still recommended

900 -999 = 1 hour

  • 800-899= 2 hours
  • 700-799= 3 hours
  • 600-699= 4 hours
  • 500-599= 5 hours
  • 400-499= 6 hours
  • 300-399= 7 hours
