Texas Mutual awards $100K to AC’s Safety and Environmental Technology Program
Texas Mutual Insurance Company—the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance—will present a check for $100,000 grant at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 at the Innovation Outpost at 1220 S. Polk. With this Amarillo College continues to fund the college’s Safety and Environmental Technology Program, which provides workplace safety courses for community employers, employees and the general public.
This is the 11th consecutive year that Texas Mutual has given a grant to Amarillo College to support its risk management program. In total, Texas Mutual has awarded $15.2 million in safety education grants, and more than 83,000 students have attended free or discounted safety and health training offered at colleges across the state.
“We’re proud to continue our long-standing partnership with Texas Mutual as we deliver safety training that meets the needs of Amarillo’s evolving workforce,” said Amarillo College President Jamelle J. Conner, Ph.D. “In 2026, our Environmental Technology program continues to expand thanks to this collaboration. Together, we’re building a safer, stronger future for our region—one student, one job, one training at a time.”
Amarillo College launched its risk management program in 2016 to provide training for increased safety awareness and to reduce work-related accidents and injuries. In 2025, Amarillo College provided safety training classes to 992 students, more than 50 classes and nearly 7,966 hours of classroom training.
The risk management program offers a wide range of courses relative to Amarillo’s workforce. Support from Texas Mutual has allowed for an expansion of course offerings ranging from mental health, first aid/CPR and OSHA 10 & 30, to confined space entry, OSHA accident investigation and boom lift/scissor lift training.
“Texas Mutual values the vital role community colleges play in shaping a skilled and resilient workforce across our state,” said Eric Bourquin, vice president of safety services at Texas Mutual. “For more than 25 years, we’ve proudly supported these institutions through targeted grants that enhance safety training and workforce readiness. Our continued investment in education reflects our belief that safer, stronger communities begin with informed and empowered employees.”
