Trio of events planned at AC for Hispanic Heritage Awareness Month
The Hispanic Student Association (HSA) at Amarillo College will observe Hispanic Heritage Month with a trio of special events on the Washington Street Campus, the first of which is open to the community and promises fun for the whole family.
Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, and it is designed to recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic-American champions who have inspired others to achieve success. The 2022 theme is “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.”
HSA’s observance at AC kicks off with “La Cultura Hispana es Familia” – Family Fun Night – from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 on the Oeschger Family Mall, at and around the Clock Tower. The event is free and open to the public.
Featured at the event will be folklórico dancers and mariachi music, Hispanic heritage crafts, a photo booth, face painting, games and an elote (corn) bar.
The celebration at AC continues on Wednesday, Sept. 28 with “Food Truck Frenzy.” A variety of food trucks will converge on the Washington Street Campus from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and HSA will share in a portion of proceeds from sales.
Finally, beginning at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, HSA offers “Loteria” – Mexican Bingo, a free game of chance for AC students. Prizes will be plentiful.
