AC Awarded Alliance Status for Occupational Safety and Health
Amarillo College will be one of few community colleges in Texas to earn alliance status with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), U.S. Department of Labor.
AC President Jamelle J. Conner will formalize the alliance status at a signing set for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26 at the Innovation Outpost at 1220 S. Polk Street in Amarillo.
“We started this process more than a year ago and are thrilled to be approved as an alliance partner with OSHA,” said Jeff Wallick, director of safety and environmental training education. “It’s a continuation of all the things we do in occupational safety for the region at AC.”
The alliance will continue Amarillo College work in community outreach and communication along with training and education.
"Amarillo College is a valuable partner in occupational safety for the whole Texas Panhandle,” said Elizabeth Linda Routh, area director of OSHA. “I’m pleased they will be formally recognized with the establishment of this alliance.”
More specifically the alliance outlines Amarillo College’s responsibility to continue providing the public with information, guidance and access to training resources that will help to prevent and reduce exposure to falls, electrocution, struck-by, caught-in or between and addressing construction, oil and gas and general industry issues, and information about the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the OSHA Act.
Amarillo College offers information in free safety training classes and continuing education courses. For more information or details, email jwallick@actx.edu or call 806-467-3040.
