AC’s LITE Luncheon raises money to assist students with disabilities

This year’s LITE Luncheon — themed “Success is…” — will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24th at the Amarillo Civic Center Heritage Room.

The annual event will be catered by Dyer’s Bar-B-Que and will once again include the traditionally extensive silent auction to additionally bolster the scholarship fund that enables people with disabilities to attend Amarillo College.

The mistress of ceremonies will be Edie Carter, AC’s dean of academic success, and featured speakers are those students who have been singled out this year by disAbility Services as success stories.

“The LITE Luncheon is all about making higher education a reality for our students,” said Dennis Sarine, coordinator of disAbility Services. “This is our primary fundraiser of the year, and it is very important because we have over 500 students with disabilities attending the College.

“Of course, students face many challenges while obtaining their education and the scholarship funds help minimize some of these obstacles,” Sarine said. “It truly does take a community to make it happen, and we are so thankful that our community has been immensely supportive of our efforts over the years.”

AC’s disAbility Services conducts the LITE Luncheon each year in conjunction with the Amarillo Advisory Commission for People with Disabilities, the AC Foundation, the Civic Center and other community organizations.
