Student Services Center Renovation and Addition

Washington Street Campus

  • Dekker, Perich & Sabatini (DPS) – DPS met with the historical commission which resulted in some changes to the schematic design.  Western Builders was selected as the CMAR, they are currently preparing an OPC from this schematic design.  We are currently selecting furnishings and finishes for this facility.

Carter Fitness Center Renovation

Washington Street Campus

  • The committee met with Sim+ Architects to review the current design and approved the direction they were headed.  Western Builders was selected to be the CMAR, awaiting April 27th BoR approval.  Western Builders is currently preparing an OPC for the current design and looking at methods to accelerate the construction and reduce the budget.  We are currently designing to play volleyball in the Fall of 2022, in addition we are designing for competitive basketball in the future.   This design will include an addition to the south with a second floor and locker rooms to the north of the existing facility.

HVAC Infrastructure Replacement

Washington Street Campus

  • Sim+ Architects are 100% complete with the Construction Documents.  We are currently preparing a boiler plate for these bid documents.  These plans will relocate the chiller plant to parking lot 8 with 4 brand-new water-cooled chillers and increase the chiller water pipe for about 1/3 of the chiller water loop.  Anticipated construction start date is June 2021.

Technology Innovation Outpost

Downtown Campus

  • Parkhill (PSC) has completed the 100% Construction Documents on BP 1 and 100% Construction Documents on BP 2.  BP 2 bids will be accepted on May 4, 2021.  Western Builders (CMAR) is currently demolishing the interior of the structure.  Western Builders developed an OPC for this project.  Their OPC was higher than the MP budget requiring the committee to go through a “Value Engineering” exercise to get the OPC within the project budget.  This project is currently under budget.

First Responders Academy

Sunset Center

  • Dekker, Perich & Sabatini (DPS) presented their schematic design to the committee.  This schematic design was approved and DPS was instructed to start their Design Development (DD).  The City of Amarillo is requiring an easement from the Plains Blvd. to the JC Penney Building to provide guaranteed access.  This is delaying the purchase of the building.  Bids have been opened for the asbestos abatement and demolition of the interior of the building.   We received excellent bids on the asbestos removal and demolition project.  This project is currently on hold until the building purchase can be finalized.  DPS is currently preparing an additional fee to study additional services to the JC Penney Building.

ADA Projects / Paving Projects

  • Shiver-Megert Associates, (SMA) - The New Connectors Roads at West Campus are approximately 95% complete.  The roads are open.  The remaining work includes the irrigation system and hydro mulching the grass.

We have met with the City of Amarillo to discuss several of the paving projects around the Byrd/Parcells Building, we are currently waiting for the City of Amarillo response.  The City of Amarillo Parks and Recreation Commission responded and approved additional parking south of Lot 10, the next step is approval by the City of Amarillo City Council.

SMA is currently preparing the construction documents for ADA improvements addressed in the Master Plan.

Art Department Relocation

Washington Street Campus

  • BP 1 and BP 2 are 100% complete.  BP 2 bids are to be opened April 27, 2021.  Plains Builders was selected as the Construction Manager contractor for this project.  An OPC will be prepared after the bids are opened on April 27th.  Bids were opened for BP 1 and a contract was signed so the air handler could be ordered and demolition started.  The basement is about 95% demolished as of April 20th.
