Bushels of Money at Stake in ‘Apple of My Eye’ Art Competition

Apple of My Eye - Juried Art Exhibition The Amarillo College School of Creative Arts and AC’s Continuing Education Division invite Panhandle-area artists 18 and older to submit the fruit of their labors for a juried art exhibition: Apple of My Eye.

Original, two-dimensional artwork completed in the past two years featuring APPLES as a subject or symbol is being accepted now through Sept. 20, and cash prizes will be awarded at a reception on Nov. 3 for what are judged to be the top three submissions.

Apple of My Eye is being co-sponsored by Center City Amarillo and by Panhandle PBS, which will do a feature story about the artist who captures the $500 first-place prize. Second- and third-place awards will be $200 and $100, respectively.

A $10 entry fee will cover up to three artworks.

For relevant deadlines, to review rules of the competition, or to enter paintings, drawings, mixed media, photography, printmaking, collage, etc., any and all of which must be priced for sale, please visit www.actx.edu/creativearts/contest.

Artists will receive 50 percent of the sale price, and a portion of sales will support AC’s Food Pantry and the Mardy Lemmons scholarship fund for AC students.

Lemmons, a graduate of AC’s Graphic Design Program and an AC instructor until his death in 2009, was well-known and dearly loved in the Amarillo art community, and his paintings have been displayed in galleries all over Texas.

All accepted entries for Apple of My Eye – the art must not exceed 40 inches in any direction – will comprise an exhibition at AC’s Downtown Campus from mid-October through the reception.
