Amarillo College Clear Bag Policy

To enhance safety and streamline entry, Amarillo College has implemented a clear bag policy for events held at the FirstBank Southwest Center. This policy is designed to enhance safety and ensure an enjoyable experience for event attendees by restricting the size and type of bags permitted.

Approved Bags

Attendees may bring the following types of bags:

  • Clear Bags: Bags must be made of completely clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC, without tinting or frosting, and must not exceed 12" x 6" x 12".

  • Small Clutch Bags and Wallets: Wallets and bags no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" (about the size of a hand) are permitted, even if they are not clear.
  • One-Gallon Clear Plastic Bags: Such as resealable storage bags (e.g., Ziplock or similar).

FAQ

The clear bag policy enhances public safety by making it easier for security personnel to quickly identify prohibited items. This reduces the risk of dangerous items entering the venue and helps expedite entry, minimizing congestion at checkpoints and ensuring a safer environment for everyone.

No, these types of items may be carried around the neck or over a shoulder.

Yes, a small clutch bag, approximately the size of a hand (no larger than 4.5" x 6.5"), may be carried separately or placed inside a clear bag that complies with the size limit of 12" x 6" x 12" or smaller.

Each person is allowed to bring one clear bag (up to 12" x 6" x 12") and one small clutch bag (up to 4.5" x 6.5"). The small clutch may be used for personal items like keys, wallets, or phones.

Medically necessary bags are defined as those required to carry essential medical equipment or supplies, such as insulin kits, oxygen tanks, or other items necessary to manage a medical condition. These bags are allowed regardless of their size or whether they meet the clear bag requirements, but they are subject to inspection. Bags containing items such as period products should be carried in a small clutch (4.5” x 6.5” or smaller) or within an approved clear bag. However, if additional accommodations are required, attendees can contact the facility in advance to request a special exemption.

Diapers and wipes can be carried in a clear bag. Each attendee, including children, is allotted one approved clear bag and a small clutch to be carried into the venue.

If you arrive with a bag that does not meet the policy requirements, you will be asked to return it to your vehicle or another secure location before entering the venue. To avoid delays, please ensure your bag complies with the policy before arriving.

At this time, the clear bag policy is only in effect for events held at the FirstBank Southwest Center on the Washington Street Campus.

This policy does not apply to those entering the fitness center for non-event-related reasons. Gym bags, backpacks, etc. are permitted for those using the fitness training facilities, attending fitness classes, or using the conference room—but not for those attending the event or tournament for which the policy is activated.
