Group counseling is a supportive environment created among students who share common concerns and goals, led by a licensed professional or peer-support specialist. Members have an opportunity of interacting with others and viewing new perspectives. Groups are held in an open format that welcomes new students and typically consist of up to 12 students. Counseling in the group format has shown to be effective for many mental health challenges and is a great option for students seeking to connect with peers.
Amarillo College partners with Cenikor to provide a free program to support students who are struggling with any type of substance use. The YRC connects students with a safe space, community, and peer mentor to help guide them on their recovery journey. This is an open group that welcomes walk-ins. Groups are held on Wednesdays between 3:30pm and 5:00pm in the Ware Student Commons, Room 120 on the Washington Campus.
Monday-Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
