KWLA chart

K-W-L-A charts are graphic organizers that help students organize information before, during, and after a unit or a lesson. They can be used to engage students in a new topic, activate prior knowledge, share unit objectives, and monitor students’ learning.

This strategy is used all throughout the class/content.  "K" is the background probe for what they already know, "W" is what they want to know, "L" is what they learned in the lesson and "A" is how they can actually apply the new knowledge.  K-W-L-A can be done in one class period or ongoing over a topic in content.

Students can create this chart in notes or on the computer.  An instructor can create one to use as a model.  Please see the link above for a layout.

This chart can be created by students individually in their notes or in a google document.  Instructors can also create an interactive one in a Jamboard, Google slides, or Google document.
