Common Questions

Questions

Every Fall, Spring, and Summer that you are registered, you will need to request your accommodations. You do not have to request separate plans for 8-week terms in the same semester (Example: Fall I and Fall II use the same accommodation plan, and you only have to request this once).

Accommodation requests are accepted

  • The first week of August for Fall terms.
  • The first week of January for Spring terms.
  • The first week of May for Summer terms.

You can request accommodations at any point in the semester. However, accommodations are never retroactive, so you will not receive accommodations for your classes until the plan is received from our office and provided to your instructor.

*Set a reminder and request your accommodations early.

You can request accommodations in multiple ways.

  • Email Us: acdisability@actx.edu
  • Call Us: (806) 345-5639
  • Visit Us: Washington Street Campus, Enrollment Center, Suite 700 (across from testing)

Simply let us know you are registered for classes and want to renew your accommodations. Please make sure to include your AC Student ID in all requests.

How long will it take to receive my accommodation plan?

Once you request your accommodations, please allow us 5–7 business days to process your request and issue your accommodations.

We will send you reminders to your student email address when it is time to request your new accommodation plan every semester — don’t ignore these! Request early so you will have them when your classes begin.

How Your Requested Accommodations Help Overcome Barriers

In order to ensure your accommodations are effective and relevant, you will be asked to explain how your requested accommodations will help to address the barriers caused by your disability. This information, in combination with your documentation and your intake meeting, will be used to tailor your accommodation plan to best suit your needs.

Consider how the accommodations you are requesting will help you overcome the barriers presented by your disability. Review the following questions to guide your response:

  • What challenges or barriers do you experience due to your disability that affect your ability to fully participate in academic activities?
    •  This is the information you gathered from the first part of this document.
  • How will your requested accommodations specifically address these barriers?
    • For example, how will extended time help with your disability? Will note-taking assistance relieve one of the barriers you identified above?
  • What impact do you expect these accommodations to have on your academic success and overall college experience?
    • For example, how will receiving these accommodations improve your ability to succeed in your courses?

Your response will be an important part of the process for developing a personalized accommodation plan. Providing as much detail as possible will help Disability Services ensure that you receive the support you need.
