In the fall of 2016, Amarillo College will offer almost 80 percent of its classes in two, eight-week blocks instead of the traditional 16 week semester. Students who choose the eight-week option will attend classes Monday - Thursday, concentrate on fewer subjects during each block and receive a week-long fall break in October.
In addition, students who take classes during both eight week blocks might increase college credits earned and may be eligible for more financial aid.
Eight-week courses are completed in half the time of a traditional 16-week semester. Students who take two to three courses during each eight-week block, can double the hours they take per semester and cut their academic journey in half.
Research has shown that concentration is heightened in a compressed, eight-week class and students can concentrate on fewer subjects in each block which is a primary factor in student success.
Eight-week courses are offered year-round, with multiple entry points designed to adapt to your schedule, not define it.
