David Woodburn

Dr. David C. Woodburn was born and raised in Amarillo.  His family has a long history of support and attendance at Amarillo College.  Dr. Woodburn’s father and mother, Charles and Lois Kight Woodburn both attended college at AC as did his brother, Doug, and Dr. Woodburn himself.

Dr. Woodburn graduated from Amarillo High School in 1965 and attended Amarillo College for two years as a pre-dentistry major.  In 1967, he transferred to the University of Houston and graduated from the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston in 1972.

After graduation, Dr. Woodburn spent three years in the U.S. Public Health Service as a part of the National Health Service Corps.  He was stationed in the Rio Grande Valley and supplied dental services to those living in poverty in Starr County.

While in the Rio Grande Valley, Dr. Woodburn met and married Alicia Pena.  The couple moved back to Amarillo in the Fall of 1975 where Woodburn opened a private dental practice.

The Woodburns have three children – Livia, Tito and Rusty.

In addition to his duties on the Board of Regents, Dr. Woodburn is involved with the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Panhandle Dental Association and the Rotary Club of Amarillo.  He also serves on the board of the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation which provides dental services for indigent patients around the state at several events each year.  In addition, he provides dental services for Heal the City patients and is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo. 

Each year Woodburn travels on medical mission trips to provide dental care to indigent communities in Texas and other parts of the world.

Woodburn was first elected to the Amarillo College Board of Regents in 2000 and served as chairman of the Board in 2004.
