Dr. Paul L. Proffer specializes in oculofacial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery at Proffer Surgical Associates, LLP.
He was appointed to the Board of Regents in March 2011 to fill the seat vacated by Lilia Escajada, who resigned to seek another public office.
Dr. Proffer, who attended Amarillo College in 1988 and 1989, completed a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry in 1991 at West Texas A&M University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He received his medical doctorate from the Texas Tech School of Medicine in 1995.
He spent three years in the Ophthalmology Residency Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, receiving the Resident of the Year Award for 1998-1999. He then spent two years at Ohio State University, where he held an Oculofacial Plastic Surgery Fellowship.
He returned to his hometown of Amarillo in 2006 and launched Proffer Surgical Associates, LLP.
In addition to his duties on the Board of Regents, Dr. Proffer has served as chairman of the Indigent Care and Funding Priorities Committee for the Amarillo Hospital District, and he has served as president-elect of the Potter-Randall Medical Society Board of Censors. He also has served on the Amarillo TIRZ 1 Board, the Marketing Committee for St. Andrews Episcopal School, and the Finance Committee of the First Baptist Church.
