Amarillo College’s Simulation Center pulses with the rhythm of high-fidelity simulations, immersive technology, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

One of the Simulation Center’s most powerful features is its dual-approach training model: combining high-tech manikins with standardized patients (SPs). These SPs are trained actors who simulate medical conditions and emotional responses in real-time, giving students critical experience in patient communication and bedside manner.

The Center’s manikins are equally impressive. Designed to simulate a full range of medical events—from cardiac emergencies to complex childbirth scenarios—they allow students to respond in controlled, repeatable conditions. Instructors operate these simulations from adjacent control rooms, often hidden from view, using audiovisual tools to observe and guide students through the experience.

From cutting-edge birth simulations to team-based emergency response training, the Health Sciences Simulation Center is transforming how Amarillo College prepares the next generation of healthcare professionals. But more than that, it’s changing the story students tell themselves about what they’re capable of.

With staff, rotating student assistants, and flexible reservation systems, the facility also functions as a training ground for local providers to book continuing education sessions, professional development workshops, and customized training events.
